Engg students want training resumed

Ludhiana, September 4
Second-year engineering students of six streams of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College are protesting against discontinuation of the six-month industrial training given to the students earlier.

The training in firms was part of their final-year course and helped students gain experience, besides providing them opportunities to get jobs.

Student leaders Amaninder Singh Brar, Amandeep Singh Gill, Prabhjot, Manpreet, Sandeep Singh Virk and Surinder Singh said the students of the 2005 batch were at a great disadvantage as the PTU had stopped the industrial training and would affect their careers.

They said they were fighting for their rights and wanted the training to be continued. If there demand was not met, they would continue their protest tomorrow from 9.30 am to 11am and invite representatives from technical colleges to join them.

Declamation contest ends

Ludhiana, September 4
A declamation contest for school students concluded on Monday on a splendid note at Kundan Vidya Mandir. The function was presided over by Mr SC, Saxena principal, and Lala Lajpat Rai, former MP as many as 27 participants from 14 schools participated. The following are the results.

Boys: Gurkirat Singh- winner, Gaurav Jhamb, — 1st runner-up, Lokesh Anand, — 2nd runners up

Girls: Smiley winner, Amanpreet — 1st runners up, Garima Jain — 2nd runners up. Special recognition was given to Nimisha Sood, Aastha Kundra, Jasleen, Kumar Sharma. Before judgement, a short cultural programme was put up. JC Varinder Dutt proposed a vote of thanks.

Teacher’s Day

It was the time for Lovely Lotus children to say “Thank You” to their teachers and tell them why they loved them. Children brought cards, flowers and small gifts for their teachers to express their for them. — OC

College to launch bulletin on economics

The Department of Economics of SCD Government College will launch its monthly news bulletin “The Current Economics” on Teacher’s Day tomorrow.

This bulletin will focus on the latest developments in the field of economics.

Prof Puran Singh and Prof Poonam Mittal, senior teachers in the department, said initially a wall magazine was started to encourage students read economic news daily. The response was good and it encouraged the faculty to start a monthly news bulletin.

Prof Harvinder Malik has taken series of measures to bring it out on regular basis.

Prof Puran Singh will be its Editor and their will be an advisory team of Prof Vishurat Sharma, Prof Parveen, Prof Jagtar Singh and Prof Ashwani Bhalla.

Freshers make a day of it

Ludhiana, September 4
It was a day of fun and enjoyment for students of the PG Department of Commerce of KLSD College as it organised a freshers’ party today. Dressed in their best, the participants looked attractive on the occasion.

Students of M Com-I were given a warm welcome by their seniors. There was an exciting dance performance by both seniors and juniors. A catwalk was followed by a question-answer round.

Students of MCom-III performed a skit and gidda, which was appreciated by the audience.

Prof Sarita Aggaral, Prof Monika Kansal and Mr Dipak Dhingra were the judges. The Principal, Dr Vijay Asdhir, and Prof Rajesh Marwaha, Head of the Departments crowned Mr Sanjay as Mr Fresher and Ms Himangi and Ms Renuka as Ms Fresher and Ms Graceful, respectively. — OC
