ABOHAR
Filling centre sealed
: A centre authorised to sell Hindustan Petroleum products was sealed on Thursday night on complaints of adulteration, sources said. Civil and police officials rushed to a HP filling centre located on the Abohar – Hanumangarh road and found that kerosene oil was being transferred from a tanker (PB 6 A 2635) to the underground diesel tank. The police arrested Dinesh Kumar, the driver.

Govt flayed on quota: The Northern India Arorvansh Sabha has condemned the UPA Government for announcing a new policy on reservation in academic institutions. A meeting of the sabha held under the chairmanship of president Mr Raj Kumar Girdhar viewed with concern the increasing impact of the vote-bank politics in the country.

New voter lists
: Amendments in voter lists will be carried out shortly. The SDM, Mr Jora singh Thind, held a meeting on Friday in which 124 supervisors of Barnala and 115 from Bhadaur participated. Ms Naresh Kiran, election kanugo, said new identity cards would be made from September 1 to 6.

Park’s stone laid: In a joint civil-military initiative, Major-Gen Mahavir Singh, GOC, 7 Infantry Division, and Mr Kulbir Singh Sidhu, Commissioner Ferozepore, on Friday laid the foundation stone of Shakti Park being constructed in the memory Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

SEIZED: Karam Singh of Kakrala village of this district was arrested for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of narcotics. About 150 kg of poppy husk in five bags was seized.

Bar Association: A meeting of the local Bar Association was held under the chairmanship of Mr Anil Gupta, president, to discuss the alleged false implication of advocate S.K. Vashisht by the police in connection with a case involving a shop. The members struck work on Saturday and decided to meet the Khanna SSP in connection with the case.

Appointed: Dr Jogesh Kumar Sharma, president of the Block Congress Committee (U), Samrala, has appointed Mr Naresh Kumar Khullar, vice-president of the committee with immediate effect. The appointment has been welcomed by Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon (MLA), Mr Bhupinder Singh Benipal, former chairman of the Block Samiti, and Mr Avtar Singh Ghulal, district general secretary (rural) of the PPCC, Ludhiana.

Ambala
URGED: Councillor Mahesh Kumar Goyal on Friday said Haryana Roadways buses should turn from Preet Nagar instead of Shaheed Major Atul Somra roundabout in Ambala Cantt. He said the road was narrow and the buses had to repeatedly reverse which blocked the highway.

Booked: The police registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against a former SP of the GRP, Mr Ravi Ajad, and two other police officials of the GRP on Friday. The state government had ordered an inquiry against Mr Ajad on the allegations of misappropriation of fund.

Medical camp: The Lion Club (Ambala Host) organised a free anaemia check-up camp at government Middle School, Jandali, on Friday. The president of the club, Mr Ashwani Sharma, said 263 children were checked and 60 per cent of the students were found anaemic.

Talent show: A talent show was held at MDSD Girls College, Ambala City, on Friday. Principal Kiran Angra stressed upon the importance of talent competitions so that hidden abilities of the students could be showcased. Staiffi and Sonia won the first prize in declamation while Rasneet and Jyoti Sikand won the second prize. In poetry recitation, Staiffi and Indu Verma stood first while Mansi and Giffty were second. Priyanka and Neha got the first prize in dance while Mandeep and Shilpa were second. In theatre, Deepika, Staiffi and Monika got the first prize while Harpreet and Monika were second. In painting, Sonia and Vijeta were first while Mansi and Ankita were second.

Competition: A talent show competition was held at Arya Girls College, Ambala Cantt, on Saturday. In quiz, a team comprising Rashmi, Suman, Mandeep, Florence and Asha was first while the team comprising Neha, Nisha, Mamta, Monika and Prabha was second. In singing, Ishu was first and Preeti second. In declamation, Nisha was first while Shinam was second. In poetry recitation, Shinam and Himani were first while Florence and Renu were second. In mono acting, Mandeep was first. In painting, Poonam was first and Pushpanjali second. In dance, Isha Kapil and Leena were first and Kanika and Renu Tiwari were second.

Farmers meet: A farmers’ meet was organised by the State Bank of Patiala on Saturday. Mr V.A. Ghai, Assistant General Manager, Regional Office, Haryana, presided. He handed over loan sanction letters amounting to Rs 1 crore to 50 persons for agricultural activities.
