Controversy over road recarpeting

A fortnight after officials of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation had ordered the stopping of recarpeting of roads, already in a good condition in New Vishawakarma Nagar, the contractor restarted work on another street in the area two days ago.

Jail reforms committee
re-organised
Ludhiana, August 18
The Punjab Government has re-organised the Reforms Committee of the Central Jail and the Woman Jail here by inducting 12 members who will visit the jails twice a month to suggest ways and means of reforming the inmates as well to offer solutions to their problems and grievances.

Vets conduct rare surgery
Ludhiana, August 18
A team of veterinary surgeons lead by Dr N.S. Saini of the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, performed a rare surgery on a buffalo having 17 kg tumour on the left side of chest which was successfully removed under general anesthesia.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhik Committee (SGPC) chief, Mr Avtar Singh Makkar today asserted that the Sikhs did not need a certificate from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) about their separate identity. He said RSS was not even the representative of the Hindus but only one of the several organisations.
