Workshop on tax
: To inspire people to pay tax and answer their queries, a workshop organised by the Income Tax Department got underway on Tuesday. According to Mr B. S Rattan, Commissioner, Income Tax, the workshop will continue till August 15.

HOSHIARPUR
Constable booked
: Constable Amarjit Singh and his accomplice have been booked under Section 384 of the IPC on the basis of a complaint by Joginder Singh, a resident of Sarangowal village, that the accused and his accomplice took Rs 1 lakh by way of extortion and threatened to kill his family members in 1991, according to the SP (D), Mr Darshanjit Singh Dhindsa.

4 booked for forgery: Onkar Singh of Dasuya, Harjinder Singh of Tanda Urmur, Naresh Kumar of Kotpath and Balwinder Singh of Hoshiarpur have been booked under Sections 465, 467, 468, 471, 472 and 420 of the IPC on the basis of a complaint by Mr Hardial Singh, Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, alleging that the accused forged signatures of excise officers on documents required for getting a visa.

SANGRUR
One injured in firing
: A group clash led to Gurmeet Singh, alias Kala, being shot at inside the court complex here on Tuesday. He, along with Rinku and Raju, were beating up Harbans Singh of Chowhan Ke village at the time of the incident. Gurmeet and Harbans Singh were taken to the Barnala Civil Hospital from where Gurmeet was referred to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. The police has registered a case against them under Sections 364, 323, 148 and 149 of IPC.

TARN TARAN
New DEOs join
: Mr Piara Singh, Principal, Government Secondary School, and Ms D.K Mahia, Principal, Sri Guru Arjun Dev Government Girls Secondary School, joined duty as District Education Officer (S) and District Education Officer (EE), respectively, on Tuesday. They will be holding additional charge of the posts till further orders.

Body found: The decomposed body of an unidentified person was found and a case under Section 174 of Cr.P.C. was registered by the police on Tuesday. The post-mortem was conducted at the Civil Hospital.

Woman dies: Rajwant Kaur (25) of Gill Waraich village died of suspected reaction from a medicine on Tuesday. She was admitted to hospital but died later.

Office bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of Anganwari Mulazam Union; president — Ms Hargobind Kaur; senior vice-presidents — Ms Rajwant Kaur, Ms Daljit Kaur, Ms Sarabjit Kaur, Ms Parsin Kaur; vice-presidents — Ms Chhinder Kaur, Ms Mohinder Kaur and Ms Krishna Devi.

Medical camp on Aug 13
: International Association of Lions Club will organise a medical camp at Bharat Bhawan in Dharamshala on August 13. Doctors will examine patients free of cost.

KAITHAL
One booked
: The police has arrested Dhoop Singh for supplying his son, Baljeet Badsikri, alias Jeeta, telephone numbers and other information about local businessmen and activities of the police. His son, Baljeet, allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh as extortion money from BJP leader Ravi Bhushan Garg. The accused was sent to two- day police remand, according to the SSP, Mr Navdeep Virk.

PANIPAT
Trader missing
: Manoj Aggarwal (27), a trader and a resident of Kishanpura has been missing since Tuesday evening. He left his home to collect money from his clients, but has not returned. The police has recovered his motorcycle according to the SP, Mr Alok Mittal.
