Blood donation camp in memory of Udham Singh

Chandigarh, July 31
The local unit of the All-India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) today organised a blood donation camp in memory of Shaheed Udham Singh at Ambedkar Bhawan here.

As many as 107 persons donated blood at the camp conducted by a team of doctors from the PGI, according to a press note issued here.

While paying tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh, president of the local unit, Mr Rajesh Sharma said Udham Singh was a great patriot.

Fatehgarh Sahib: All those who sacrificed their lives for the nation are always remembered and become immortal and a source of inspiration for the coming generations. The communities which forget and don’t respect their martyrs cannot make any progress and their future is not safe, said Dr Harbans Lal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, while paying tributes to martyr Udham Singh during the commemoration of his martyrdom at Rauza Sharif, Fatehgarh Sahib, today.

AMBALA: Shaheedi divas of martyr Udham Singh was observed at Congress Bhavan, Ambala city on Monday.

The function, which was organised by the District Congress Committee, Ambala City, was presided over by Mr Arun Garg. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Arun Garg said the youth must draw inspiration from the life of martyr Udham Singh.

Dharamvir in Indian u-18 team

A local hockey player, Dharamvir Singh, belonging to the Chandigarh Hockey Academy, Sector 42, has been chosen for the Indian hockey team (U-18) for the Four-Nation International Challenge tournament to be held at Singapore from August 3 to 6.

Dharamvir was among the four Chandigarh Hockey Academy probables, who had undergone a one-month long camp conducted at Chennai in preparation for the Tournament. Dharamvir was also part of the under-18 Asia Cup camp and had always been among the leading players of the academy.

Elated over his inclusion, Dharamvir, who is in Chennai at the moment, said, “My aim is to make my city proud and I am sure that if I could play up to my potential? I will surely come out with flying colours. Talking further, he said, “Being part of the camp, I have learnt many things. My confidence level has definitely risen and it had made me mentally tough”.

“Speed is my biggest asset. I basically concentrate on netting the ball first, without giving much time to the opposite side to take position”, he said.

Talking to this correspondent, his coach at the Chandigarh Hockey Academy, Jasbir Singh Bajwa, said, “Dharamvir has been under my training at the academy since its inception in 2002. He has been a consistent performer for the academy has the calibre of a world class player. Dharamvir plays on the right half and is out rightly a player with speed and great distribution sense with tremendous accuracy level. This player has a rare combination of speed and stamina and skill in making the game strategy to execute the goal”.

“I have just got a call from Chennai. He was very excited to be part of the big league of players. I have advised him to be coordinated and mentally strong in any given situation. This is his first step towards stardom. I hope he would definitely make our city proud with his expertise in stick work,” opined Bajwa.

GMSSS-37 thrash Sanjay school

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, and St John's High School will face each other in the finals of ongoing Pre- Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament (Under 17-boys) tomorrow.

The GMSSS-37 thrashed Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, by 7-1 while St John's beat Vivek High School, Sector 38, by 5-3 in the semifinals at GMSSS, Sector 37, grounds here today.

For the GMSSS-37, the main scorers were Manoj and Pawan.
