Governor honours meritorious students
Chandigarh, July 29 Addressing the function, General Rodrigues said: “We have a glorious heritage of learning and knowledge and we have to go back to our roots, which showed the way to the rest of the world in different fields of endeavour.” Appreciating the efforts of the society for evolving the concept of helping the needy, General Rodrigues said it was a thoughtful venture to carry forward the mission of identifying and developing the best human resource among students and providing them with the platform to scale new heights. In his welcome address, Lieut-Gen J.L. Malhotra detailed the objectives of the society and said the society was presently supporting 177 students drawn from a large spectrum of schools and many of them had joined different academic and professional colleges. He said deserving students were selected solely on merit and members of the society contributed towards education of the children. The students who were honoured were: Tamana, Nayana, Pooja Devi, Khusboo, Gaurav, Subhash, Pooja, Panveer Kaur, Neelam Dhanola, Babu Singh, Pooja Sharma, Sunita Haldar, Sanjeev Singla, Nitin Bansal, Gaurav Lekhi and Bhavesh Dalal. The two school coordinators who were honoured were Manu Gupta and Kulwinder Kaur. |
Test for teachers on Aug 6

The second counselling for the Food Craft Institute will be held on August 2 from 2 pm to 3 pm to fill the seats of Scheduled Tribe and physically handicapped categories, who appeared in the entrance test on July 7. If sufficient candidates are not available, the seats shall be offered to the other category candidates. The admissions will be on first-come-first served basis. Posts of lecturer
The Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology has invited applications for posts of Lecturers and PTI. One post each of lecturer is for electronics and communication engineering, production engineering and computer engineering. The last date for filing applications is August 17. |
Seminar on British media study today
Chandigarh, July 29 British master’s degrees in journalism, advertising and public relations are offered in India by TASMAC at its campuses in Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata. These programmes are validated and awarded by the University of Wales, the UK. TASMAC is the first institute outside Europe and the only institute in India to be accredited and recognised by the British Accreditation Council, the UK. TASMAC is India’s first ISO 9001:2000 certified management institute. It has been ranked A+ by the Business India in its annual survey on Indian business schools for two consecutive years (2004 and 2005). The duration is one year, besides dissertation, that can be completed during or after the programme. The eligibility is a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or a non-graduate aged above 25 years, who can demonstrate relevant and appropriate prior learning experience (minimum 2 years). Three intakes are conducted, commencing in August, December and April every year. Applications are being accepted for August. The course will start on August 21. Scholarships are available to students having a first division in their bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience. |
Quota seat admission till Aug 4
Chandigarh, July 29 All general category candidates who applied for admission in various teaching departments and appeared in CET/OCET Entrance Tests (where applicable) may contact the Chairpersons of respective Departments immediately. In case, a candidate fails to do so, his or her claim for admission shall not be entertained later. According to the Dean University Instruction, Panjab University, candidates who applied for admission to the 2006-2007 session to various teaching departments under general category and appeared in CET or CET Entrance Tests (where applicable) and did not opt for Foreign National/PIO/NRI/NRI-Sponsored/Industry-Sponsored category, should submit their option application for a seat in this category to the Chairperson or Principal of the respective departments or colleges latest by August 7 by 5 pm. |
Satluj school celebrates monsoon
Chandigarh, July 29 The welcome speech was given by the Principal of the senior wing, Mr Krit Serai. The items presented included a rain dance, “ thundering and rowing boat”, “ colours of rainbow”. The highlight was a Rajasthani dance , “ sawan aaya re”. Ms Kanta Malik, District Education Officer, was the chief guest. Mr Pritam Singh Serai, school director, spoke.

Chandigarh, July 28 The event was organised over two rounds: The ‘ethnic wear’ round, where each team comprising 8-12 participants sashayed on the ramp with traditional costumes from different parts of India, and the ‘western wear’ round, where participants created the costumes and choreography around contemporary western fashion trends. |
