Doctors yet to get salary: Appointed under the three-year contract in rural dispensaries, service-provider doctors of the district have not yet received their first month’s salary. Dr Amrit Pal Singh, President, Service Provider Doctors Association (SPDA), said their pay was to be released in the first week of July.

One held for killing friend: The Majitha police has arrested Sharanjit Singh alias Rummi, a resident of Ruppowali Kalan, for having killed his friend. In a press release issued here on
Tuesday, Mr Gautam Cheema, SSP, Majitha, stated that the accused killed Jasjit alias Jassi, of Khushipur, with sharp-edged weapons on the intervening night of July 22 and 23.The accused was arrested from Pathankot.

raped: A married woman from West Bengal, living in Patti, was raped by a migrant labourer, Suresh Chander, when her husband was away on Tuesday. The accused has been booked under Section 376 IPC by the Patti police.

One killed, one
injured: Balwinder Singh (22), a resident of Chutala village, died while Baljinder was injured when their scooter was hit by a vehicle on Tuesday, while they were on their way back home from Dhotian village .The Sadar police has registered a case under Section 174 of the Cr.P.C. The body was sent for a post- mortem at the local Civil Hospital.

Man Commits suicide: Fateh Singh, a 35-year old, farm labourer, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Bhucho Mandi on Tuesday. The GRP handed over the body to his family members after a post-mortem examination.

Pension adalat: The Accountant -General ( A&E), Punjab and UT Chandigarh, Mr Onkar Nath, accompanied by Mr A.S. Khokher, Deputy Accountant-General and a team of senior Accounts Officers, held a pension adalat and a pension awareness programme for pensioners and staff of the pension sanctioning authorities of various state government departments here on Tuesday. PO held: A proclaimed offender, Krishan Dev ,son of Wattan Singh of Badalian village , has been arrested by the Hajipur police on Tuesday after five and a half years’ of the registration of an FIR under Sections 498 A, 406 and 506 of the IPC against him, according to police sources.
