Srinagar, July 25
The police has arrested one person responsible for the two blasts in the Ganderbal area, near here, during the past two months in which two persons were killed and 10 others, including five Amarnath yatris, injured.

The “drug addict” is being interrogated and the police is looking for a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba behind the attacks in the area, a senior police officer told The Tribune here today.

“We have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh and a job for anyone giving information about the militant,” the police officer said. The militant belonging to the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, for whom the reward was announced in the area, has been identified as Bashir Ahmad.

According to the police officer, a “drug addict”, Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Butwani, Ganderbal, about 25 km from here, was arrested following sustained investigations into the twin blasts. “He wanted money and landed with the militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit who made the payment to him”, the officer disclosed. He added that Fayaz was given Rs 2,100 and two grenades for lobbing at the security forces.

The two blasts took place at Beehama Chowk, Ganderbal, on June 21 and July 15. Five yatris from Rajasthan were injured when a grenade was lobbed on their vehicle on June 21. The pilgrims were returning here after “darshan” at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath.

Two others were killed and five injured, all of them locals, when a grenade was lobbed towards a security picket in Beehama Chowk on July 15. One of the civilians died on spot while the other succumbed to his injuries in hospital next day.
