More houses come up on acquired land for IT park
Chandigarh, June 25
Three years after the Chandigarh Administration acquired a large chunk of land under Phase -II for the IT Park in Kishangarh village, the UT Engineering Department is yet to even make an assessment of the residential properties and other structures that stood on the land at the time of its acquisition.

Tributes paid to melody queen
Chandigarh, June 25
Touching tributes were paid to the Punjabi melody queen, Surinder Kaur, at the bhog ceremony today. Knighted as the 'Nightingale' by peers all over the world, Surinder Kaur (76) passed away on June 15 while convalescing at a hospital at New Jersey, USA.

Army JCO reinstated
Chandigarh, June 25
An Army JCO who was denied promotion on the grounds that he faced disciplinary action has been reinstated in service and given his due promotion after he sought legal redressal.

‘Black day’ observed
Chandigarh, June 25
The local unit of the BJP today observed a ‘’black day’’ in memory of the Emergency imposed by the Congress on June 25, 1975, a press note said here today. It was pointed out that the democracy in the country had witnessed the brutality because of the harsh decision taken by Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister, 31 years ago. Hundreds were jailed all over the country.

Tirlochan elected Mohali lambardar union chief

Demand to regulate cable tariff

The unscheduled power cuts for long and odd hours in this sweltering heat have forced the city residents to bear sleepless nights for the past over a month. Courtesy the state electricity department that has hardly made any arrangements for helping the consumers.

Power failure in Sector 15
Chandigarh, June 25
Parts of Sector 15-A plunged into darkness for about an hour tonight after an electric line tripped in the locality. The dark only aggravated the trouble for Mr Ishwar Dyal, a resident of house number 453, Sector 15-A, as a part of the roof of his house had collapsed earlier.

Former Tribune employee dead
Chandigarh, June 25
Mr R.K. Sahu, a former Assistant Advertisement Manager of The Tribune, expired here today after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and two sons — Mr Sushil Kumar and Mr Anil Kumar who are working in The Tribune. His body will be taken to Hardwar tomorrow.

Jewellery shop owners booked for fraud
Mohali, June 25
The police has booked two Panchkula residents on charges of fraud and conspiracy. The two had allegedly duped some persons whom they had used as agents to sell diamonds and gold jewellery.

Hotelier booked for not giving details of servants
Mohali, June 25
The Mohali police has booked a hotel owner of the township for not reporting the details of his servants to the police. Davinder Singh owner of Blue Diamond hotel in Phase IX has been booked under Section 188 of the IPC.

Gang rape: main accused held
Lalru, June 25
The Lalru police today arrested the main accused Amandeep Singh in a gang rape case, and impounded the Indica car used in the crime. Meanwhile, a Rajpura court remanded the accused in police custody till June 27.

One dead in road mishap
Chandigarh, June 25
A cyclist, hit by an unknown vehicle on Friday, succumbed to his injuries at PGI, here, last night. Sources in the Industrial Area Police station said, Gautam of Phase I, Industrial Area, was seriously injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on Friday. He sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to PGI, where he succumbed to his injuries, late last night.

Six held for selling tickets in black
Chandigarh, June 25
The police today nabbed six persons, including three employees of a Sector 32 cinema hall, from two separate places on the allegations of selling tickets in black. The police seized 234 tickets from their possession

Nigerian held with cocaine
Chandigarh, June 25

The local police today arrested a Nigerian, and recovered 3 gm of cocaine from him. He was supplying cocaine in the night clubs. He was arrested by the local police last year with 14 grams of cocaine.

Body of child found from nullah
Mohali, June 25
The Sohana police has recovered the body of a two-year-old child from the Sohana nullah. Residents of Gige Majra village had seen the body on the side of the nullah here, who then informed the police.

388 persons booked
Chandigarh, June 25
In order to curb incidents of snatching and drunken driving, the local police yesterday booked 388 persons for various traffic violations, including four for drunken driving, during its joint drive involving staff of all police stations and the traffic police.

Over 6,000 appear in UGC-NET exam
Chandigarh, June 25
More than 6,000 students appeared in the National Eligibility Test (NET), conducted by the University Grants Commission, here today. Prof D.C. Kataria, an expert for the UGC-NET exam and Director of the Aryans Educational and Charitable Trust, said the students gave mixed reactions towards the papers, though a majority of them found the paper-I a bit tough.

A 15-day Airtel kids summer camp came to an end today. There was cultural display by children who had participated in the camp. The camp was organised by EuroKids. Airtel had sponsored children of its customers for the camp

Balraj Sahni award for Kanwar Iqbal
Chandigarh, June 25

The 24th Balraj Sahni national award for the promotion of Indian classical and regional music was conferred on the city-based musicologist and composer, Prof. Kanwar Iqbal, Head, Music Department, Government College, Sector 46. The award was presented by Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gangu Ram Musafir at a special function organised by Mumbai and Shimla-based All-India Artistes Association at the Kali Bari auditorium, Shimla, yesterday.

The Badminton Association of India has allotted Junior National Badminton Tournament to Haryana which will be held at Sports Complex, Sector 3, Panchkula, from November 22 to 30.

8-day yoga camp begins

A 8-day yoga camp organised by the Panchkula Residents Welfare Council began at Sector 12, here today. Wg Cdr H.L. Ratta (retired), member of the association, inaugurated the camp. He highlighted the importance of yoga. He also stressed on its importance at a time when people were facing mental and physical stress.

Harmail was adjudged the winner under the special handicap category while Dishant Sehgal won the first place in 25 metres free style (boys) U- 10 category during the swimming competition organised by the Lake Sports Complex for its swimming pool users at its compound here today.
