Youth who burnt himself over “Fanaa” dies

Jamnagar, June 20
A youth, who set himself on fire on June 11 to protest the screening of Aamir Khan-starrer “Fanaa”, succumbed to his burns at Guru Govind Singh Hospital here today.

Pravin Joshi (20), who had been on a life-support system and ventilator for the past 10 days, breathed his last at 12.30 pm, hospital sources said.

A resident of Porbandar, Pravin had arrived here to watch “Fanaa” at Amber cinema hall, which was the only theatre in Gujarat to have defied the boycott of the film called by cinema owners’ associations against Aamir’s remarks in support of rehabilitation of Narmada dam oustees.

However, during the intermission of the movie, Pravin attempted self-immolation by dousing himself with petrol in the hall’s toilet.

He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition with over 90 per cent burns. — UNI
