CJM to auction malkhana goods
Rajneesh Lakhanpal

Ludhiana, June 20
With the judicial malkhana premises bursting at seams due to piling up of case property items and vehicles, the District and Sessions Judge, Mr Harbans Lal, has ordered the auction of a major chunk of the stacked-up goods.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr K.S. Cheema, would conduct the auction of these lying inside and outside the malkhana, near the judicial courts complex, Ludhiana, on June 23.

For years, no auction was conducted. As per information, there are about 100 scooters, 20 cars, one truck, two tractors, one jeep and 63 gas cylinders.

It may be noted that the malkhana is proving to be a great hindrance in the start of the construction work of the New Lawyers Chambers Complex, a project which has already been okayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The building committee of the high court had already issued instructions to get the malkhana shifted.

The auction would pave the way for shifting of the malkhana. A few days ago the District and Sessions Judge, Chairman of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana Harish Rai Dhanda, Bar president Naval Kishore Chibber had visited the malkhana to check the possibility of shifting the same.

About a month and half ago an attempt was made to conduct the auction but the scrap dealers had allegedly formed a cartel to buy on rates convenient to them. The Chief Judicial Magistrate had cancelled the auction to prevent losses.
