Jalandhar
House burgled
: Intruders stole a gas cylinder, a TV set, and other valuables from the house of one Pushpa Rani in the New Rasila Nagar in Basti Danishmanda on Friday. The family said it was away to attend a wedding when the incident occurred. The police has registered a case and is investigating the matter.

Stone laid: General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, Lieut-General Noble Thamburaj laid the foundation stone of residential quarters for the Corps Dental Unit in the cantonment on Saturday morning. The accommodation for Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks will come up in a year’s time opposite the Sainik Hospital. The project’s contract has been given to a Delhi-based firm, M/S Friends Engineers. The Chief Engineer, Jalandhar Zone, Mr Suresh Dhar said the residential unit would be equipped with ultra-modern facilities and would cost over Rs 115 lakh. He added that the Core Dental Unit being built under the scheme would have air-conditioned dental surgical rooms.

CHANDIGARH

RALLY: A peaceful protest rally will be organised by the 1984 Danga Peerit Society, Chandigarh, on June 5. The rally, which is being held in the wake of unfair distribution of compensation announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Sikh riot victims, will start from Gurdwara Sahib, Sector 22, at 9.30 am and will proceed for Governor’s House via Matka Chowk.

Fire brigade personnel gave a demonstration in front of a gathering of District Officers about the ways of controlling fire in case of emergencies.

: The police on Saturday registered a case against two residents of Jol Garaid for fraudulently getting land of a Saloh resident transferred and registered in their names. According to the police, the Tehsildar, Shahpur, has lodged an FIR that Sita Ram and Kuldeep Singh of Jol Garaid village have fraudulently got transferred 67.5 hectares belonging to Mr Ram Lal of Saloh village in their names.
