Poppy husk seized: Poppy husk weighing 11 kg was recovered from a scooterist near Bhadar Kali temple, according to Inspector Baldev Singh. Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, he said he was on patrol duty when his party saw a scooter (Pb-14 A-5740) with a bag behind the driver. A search revealed the poppy husk and the scooterist, Gurinder Singh, was arrested under the NDPC Act.
Man drowns in canal: A young man, Naval Kumar, of Bhandari Mohalla was drowned while taking bath in Alliwal canal, 6 km from here, on Monday. The police chowki registered a case under Section 174 Cr P.C. and sent the body for post mortem.

Principals flay state govt: The Association of College Principals has flayed the state government for cutting down grant-in-aid to the covered staff under 95 per cent grant-in-aid scheme from 60 years to 58 years. It also criticised another modification under which colleges had been asked to deposit 60 per cent of the funds other than tuition fee and admission fee.

Gang of thieves busted: The district police has busted a three-member gang of thieves who indulged in stealing wires.
Mr P.S. Umranangal, SSP, Gurdaspur, said here on Tuesday that two members of the gang had been arrested while their accomplice had absconded. The police has been conducting raids to nab him. He has been identified as Om Parkash, alias Kala. Those arrested have been identified as Mohammad Gulzar and Joginder Singh, both residents of Amritsar.

flagged off: Fourteen special vehicles allotted by the Home Department, Punjab, to the district police were flagged off by Mr Parveen Kumar Sinha, SSP, here on Monday.
Each vehicle is fitted with a camera and a movie camera which would be helpful in detecting
