Land allotment to club challenged
Ludhiana, May 30
Residents of Rajguru Nagar here have challenged the allotment of 2000 square yards of land to the Rotary Club (North) by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust at allegedly throwaway rate by changing the land use and have sought a permanent stay order.
16 cows die due to acidosis
Machhiwara, May 30
At least 16 cows in the local Baba Bhagti Nath Gaushala died due to acidosis today. More than six cows are still stated to be in a very serious condition.
Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, the president of the Gaushala Managing Committee,
Mr Sushil Luthra, said this happened due to excess intake of chapatis by the
cows.
Women called upon to help fight tobacco abuse

Concerned over the reported indifference of social and religious organisations of the area towards fighting the menace of tobacco abuse, the civil administration has called upon the women of the area to join hands in crusade against this root cause of the majority of cardiovascular and pulmonary deceases.
Indian woman to be paramedic in
western Canada

Ms Preet, a flight attendant in Canada, is set to reach her target to be the first Indian woman to be a paramedic in western Canada.
She has called upon senior-generation Punjabis to understand the feelings of

34-year-old heart patient needs help
Ludhiana,
May 30
Surjit Singh (34), a resident of Hassanpur village in this
district, is suffering from serious rheumatic heart disease and
needs replacement of heart valve. The patient, admitted to Hero
DMC Heart Institute here, has a damaged heart valve, which is
causing serious problems due to leakage of blood.
Surjit Singh, who is admitted to Hero DMC Heart Institute, Ludhiana, awaits the help of good Samaritans for the treatment of his heart problem.

Senior citizens demand rent-free telephones
Ludhiana, May 30
The Northern Railway Pensioners Welfare Association has called upon the Union Telecommunication Minister, Mr Daya Nidhi
Maran, to introduce a special scheme under which land line telephones were provided to the senior citizens without any monthly rental and no free calls.
Satluj Club to hold summer camp from June 3
Ludhiana, May 30
The Satluj Club, Ludhiana will hold the annual summer camp for members and dependents from June 3 to June 17. The camp will include various events like music, dance, home making, interior decoration and other things.

Demonstration by bank staff

The Punjab Bank Employees Federation held a demonstration here today to protest against the Bank of India management’s attempts to alter the pension scheme.
Conman held
Ludhiana, May 30
The police has nabbed a conman who allegedly managed to fleece a number of persons by giving them plain paper in lieu of thousands of rupees.
Inspector Gursewak Singh Brar, SHO of the police station, told
mediapersons that the nabbed suspect, Munna and his absconding
accomplice, Ashok, were fleecing people, especially illiterate migrants.
Coloniser attacked
Ludhiana, May 30
A group of about 15 persons attacked a coloniser in Khanna today this afternoon on the Khanna-Amloh road and made an abortive bid to grab his land.
The victim, Ravinder Singh, was admitted to Civil Hospital with multiple
injures. The police registered a case and further investigations were
on.
