2 militants killed in encounter
Srinagar, May 30
Two militants were killed in an encounter at Tral in Pulwama district today. A defence spokesman said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Tral, about 40 km from here, early this morning following information that some militants were hiding there. He said when the troops were about to storm a particular house, militants opened fire and lobbed hand grenades. They retaliated after militants refused to surrender, he said, adding it is believed that two to three militants were inside the house. He said the house from where militants were firing had caught fire and there was no firing from inside for the some time. Two militants were killed and two Ak rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered, official sources said. — UNI
