No termination notices to doctors: PGI
Chandigarh, May 28
The PGIMER today clarified that resident doctors had not been issued any termination notices for boycotting work. Maintaining that the news of issuing of termination notices to 40 doctors was baseless, the authorities clarified that no disciplinary action had been initiated against the protesting doctors.

Prepare list of eligible oustees, HC tells Admn
Chandigarh, May 28
In a major relief to oustees of UT villages, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Chandigarh Administration to prepare a list of the eligible oustees. Directing all such eligible persons to apply to the Estate Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, within two months, a Division Bench, comprising Mr Justice Vinay Mittal and Mr Justice Vinod.K.Sharma, has stated that when any scheme was floated by the Chandigarh Housing Board(CHB) for the allotment of dwelling units, all such eligible persons would be eligible to apply.

Lok Adalat pulls up MC in site resumption case
Chandigarh, May 28
The permanent Lok Adalat for public utility services, Chandigarh, while quashing the resumption order of a Sector 9 booth, has held that the deciding authority should first make use of the alternative of imposing monetary penalty upon a defaulting allottee before taking the extreme step of resuming a site.

A bridge of jubilation

The Kharar MLA, Mr Bir Devinder Singh, today formally inaugurated the Manoli-Premgarh bridge on the Chandigarh choe this evening. The bridge will help residents of various villages, including Kambala, Chilla and Manouli.

Relief not released, says ’84 victims’ body
Chandigarh, May 28
Families of more than 90 families of the city who were victims of anti-Sikh riots of 1984 are a peeved lot because the Chandigarh Administration has not released their share of compensation as announced by Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister.

Colonel fights for disability pension
Chandigarh, May 28
After serving in the Army for over 30 years, a retired colonel is now battling to get his disability pension. A medical board had awarded him 70 per cent disability for life at the time of his retirement, but the authorities are yet to sanction his pension.

Certification scheme for food supply chains
Chandigarh, May 28
Food safety standards are no longer restricted to food production. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has now come up with a Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) Certification Scheme (IS/ISO 22000), with specified safety standards for the forward and backward linkages in the food industry.

Mohali residents okay community policing

Mohali, May 28
Residents of Mohali today unanimously okayed the implementation of the community policing scheme in the district. The scheme would involve the deployment of a force of men selected from the local population and trained by the police, who would be responsible for providing security cover to the area allocated to them.

Chander Mohan lays stress on yoga
Panchkula, May 28
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, failed to keep his date with yoga lovers of the city and its neighbouring areas. Mr Hooda was supposed to attend the Yoga Seminar and Treatment Camp organised by the Haryana Yog Sabha at Yoga Training Centre in Sector 12. The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Chander Mohan, was present at the camp.

Former Tribune employee dead
Chandigarh, May 28
Mr Chaman Lal Bhardwaj, 69, a former press supervisor of The Tribune, died today in Canada. He was suffering from cancer. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Six injured in clash
Mohali, May 28
At least six persons were injured, two of them grievously, in a clash at Ramgarh village, near Daun, late last night. Four armed persons, including a woman, of the same family allegedly attacked a group of villagers when they tried to stop them from dismantling the gurdwara boundary wall. Three persons were admitted to the Kharar Civil Hospital. However, one person was later shifted to the PGI.

Three held for murder of Nadah village resident
Mohali, May 28
The police has arrested the three persons accused in the murder of a 37-year-old resident of Nadah village here yesterday. The accused include the victim’s nephew, who reportedly committed the crime following a spat over the ownership of a piece of land.

Boy held for sexual abuse of child
Chandigarh, May 28
A 12-year-old boy allegedly sexually abused a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Nehru Colony here, on Saturday night. The accused was arrested after he was caught red-handed.

Chandigarh, May 28
The 18 year-old boy, who tried to commit suicide by jumping in to Sukhna Lake, here, on Saturday, died in the PGI today. Sources at the Sukhna Lake police post said, the victim had been identified as Munish Kumar of Bapu Dham Colony.

Man held with ganja
Chandigarh, May 28
The local police held one person on the charge of carrying 4 kg of ganja from Sector 38. In another incident, a Sector 17 resident was caught red-handed while stealing a cycle from Sector 17. Besides this, a music system and other articles were stolen from a car in Sector 42.

Yoga camp begins
Chandigarh, May 28
A yoga camp under the auspices of Maharishi Patanjali Yog Foundation Trust is being held at DAV College, Sector 10, here. The camp which commenced today would be continue till June 3. The organiser Acharya Karamveerji, a pioneer of Yog Sadhna movement, has initiated the job of organising camps throughout the country to get people aware about the virtues of yoga exercises.

Schools organise treks for students
Mohali, May 28
Every year in the months of May and June, students of YPS, Mohali, venture out into the hills for annual treks. A week-long trekking is a compulsory activity for students of Classes six and above.

HC stays operation of PU circular

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the operation of the circular dated April 19 issued by the Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. The circular relates the policy framed by the PU regarding regularisation of temporary, daily-wage and contractual employees of the university.

Poetry enlivens ‘kavita bazm’

The Chandigarh Sahitya Akademy organised a “Trilingual Kavita Bazm,” featuring fifteen poets from the region, at the akademy hall yesterday. Welcoming the poets, akademy chairman. Naresh solicited their contribution in harnessing the growing evils of regionalism, sectarianism and religious bigotry in society.

Artiste compiles his play in book form

A former graduate from DAV College, Chandigarh and an active theatre artiste, Navpreet Rangi, released his ninth book yesterday. As in the past, this one is also based on a play which Rangi wrote recently to satisfy his urge as a script writer. The young artiste has been delving into issues concerning the aspirations of the youth.

High drama follows as children find dumped foetus 
Chandigarh, May 28
In an unsuccessful bid to conceal her unwanted pregnancy, an unmarried woman got her seven months pregnancy terminated and dumped the foetus near the Institute for the Mentally Retarded Children in Sector 32 on Friday.
