Amritsar Jagraon TWO HELD: The CIA staff have arrested Shamsher Singh of Bassian Colony (Raikot) from the area of bridge canal and seized 20 kg of poppy husk from him. In another incident, the police has arrested Rajdeep Singh of Sidhwan Kalan from Sidhwan Khurd and seized 10 kg of poppy husk. OPIUM SEIZED: The Dehlon police has arrested Suresh Kumar of Hakampura of Udaipur tehsil in Rajsthan from the area of Gangman village and seized 400 gm of opium. In another incident, the police has arrested Amarjit Singh of Gagkalan from Malak and seized 11250 ml of illicit liquor. Cases have been registered.
Jalandhar Special clinic: A special clinic has been set up at the Oxford Hospital to help patients of implants like pacemakers. The clinic, said to be a first such venture in north India, was inaugurated by Dr S.P.S. Grover, the Managing Director of the hospital here on Tuesday. The hospital would hold a regular pacemaker and device clinic on second Tuesday of every month. More than 100 patients of pacemaker and
devices were checked up free of cost. Ludhiana association: Mr P.K. Nayar, Senior Manager, Punjab National Bank, Chowk Saidan branch, was elected president of the All India Punjab National Bank Officers Association, Ludhiana zone, at a meeting of the association here on Sunday. The other members are Mr Kanwal Kumar, vice-president, Mr Ashok Arora, zonal secretary, Mr Kulvir Singh, joint secretary, Mr Satish Chopra, treasurer, Mr Ravinder Vig, sub-treasurer and Mr K.S. Johal, Mr Onkarjit Singh, Mr Paramjit Singh as executive members. Nawanshahr Declamation contest: A declamation contest on AIDS awareness was organised here at Government Senior Secondary School under the school adolescent education programme launched by the Punjab AIDS Control Society and NACO, with a view to creating awareness among school students. Baljit Singh, Amandip Kaur and Pooja won the first three prizes, respectively. Mr Balihar Singh Bains, District Science Supervisor, Mr Lehmber Ram, Mr Baldev Singh, Mr Jagdish Rai, Ms Sunita, Ms Mohinder Kaur and Ms Nitika Bhandari, among others, also delivered special lectures to mobilise students to help curb the dreaded disease.
