Tribune News Service

Jammu, May 9
The Powergrid Corporation has decided to construct a direct 400-KV touch point at Ludhiana to meet the power requirement of the industrial city of Punjab.

Work on the Rs 150-crore project would ensure reliability in power supply in Ludhiana city and its vicinity.

Dr N.S. Saxena, Executive Director of the Powergrid, said here today that 37 acres of land was being acquired at Laltokalan, Mansooran and Sehjad villages near Ludhaina and the process was expected to be completed this month.

The substation will be interlinked with the 800-MW Kol Dam project being constructed by the NTPC in Himachal Pradesh.

Work on the substation will begin next month and commissioned in August, 2007. Later, it will also be linked with the Rampur hydroelectric project and Chamera in Himachal.
