Prize distribution at PEC
While the UT Finance Secretary, Mr S.K. Sandhu, was the chief guest at the annual prize distribution ceremony, the UT Home Secretary, Mr Krishan Mohan, along with his wife sat among the proud parents to watch their wards get prizes. Mr Krishan Mohan’s daughter, Deepika Mohan, who is passing out this session brought laurels to the college for PECFEST and as part of the Thinking Club.
Chandigarh, April 25 The event also marked the transfer of posts of the official college clubs. The new chief club secretary and the convener of the PEC fest 2007, were also named during the course of the meeting. Dr Vijay Gupta, Director, PEC, Mr K.K. Gogna, chief club president, and Mr K.K. First-aid training for students
Chandigarh, April 25 Addressing a press conference here today, Dr Gopal Munjal, Chairman of the Ind-Swift group, said the company had requested the Safety Circle to provide first-aid training to selected staff and students of 104 government schools. Mr B.P.S. Bakshi, Managing Director of the Safety Circle, said his organisation was representing the National Safety Council in six countries, including India, and they would help Ind-Swift in this social cause. He said that they would train the staff and student for first-aid principles, emergency action plan, basic life support, bleeding and wound care, serious injuries, bone, joint and muscle injuries, sudden illness, burns, poisoning, heat and cold emergencies, rescuing and moving victims. Mr Anshu Kataria, Director of the "Swift Health Programme for Schools", added that the third phase of the programme would be launched in the first week of May. After the completion of the third phase, the decision regarding its extension to the other states would be taken. |
Students come out with flying colours

Workshop on female foeticide concludes

Chandigarh, April 25 She emphasised that the thrust areas of the population and development education programme were reproductive health and reproductive rights, adolescent education, gender equality and equity, empowerment of women, HIV/AIDS and family life education. For the past two years, the cell had been emphasising on the programmes relating to female foeticide at different levels to combat the problem of declining sex ratio. “Female foeticide in right perspective” was discussed by Dr Parkash Gupta, specialist in family medicine, public health and radio diagnosis who highlighted the importance of social and mental change in society. The women should be empowered to say no to sex determination, it was stressed. Ms Jasbir Bawa, State Mass Media Officer, emphasised on gender specific socialisation and urged the participants to break the stereotypes regarding male and female roles. The participants actively participated in the workshop and took pledge to propagate the message to all districts of Punjab. Training programme: The University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau, Panjab University, will organise a three-day training programme on career guidance for liaison officers of local colleges from Wednesday at ICSSR Complex, Panjab University Campus.Prof Veer Singh, Dean University Instruction, will inaugurate the programme. Mr L.V. Reddy and his team from the Central Institute of Training and Employment Service will provide training, according to Prof Dinesh K. Gupta, Chief, University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau, Panjab University. |
Youngest rider bags gold
Chandigarh, April 25 He bagged the top position in the Children’s Ball and Bucket Race. The event required participants to drop a ball into a bucket while riding, go around, collect another ball and repeat the sequence. Adhiraj has been riding for the past two years and is a member of the St John High School’s riding team which is participating in the show. He is a student of Class-I. “I am very fond of horses and really enjoy riding,” he said. “It feels very nice to win a race in an event like this”, he added. Adhiraj has his own horse and he does practice regularly. “I ride daily for about an hour,” he said. |

32 selected for SAI scheme
Chandigarh, April 25 More than 80 players from the northern states attended the two-day selection trials held at the school on April 20 and 21. After physical and skill tests, nine players were selected for the under-14 category, nine for the under-17 section and 13 for the Under-19 category. The players are expected to join the scheme on May 1 after all formalities are completed. They will undergo medical tests before final selection. Those who comprised the selection panel included SAI Regional Director (Sonepat) S.S. Rao, Deputy Director Sanjeev Sharma, Principal of the school Ravinder Talwar, SAI coach Satnam Singh, Hamajit (SAI, Sonepat) and Hardeep Singh (SAI, Sonepat). The selected players are: Under-14: Ayush, Nitin Kapoor, Navjot, Sarvan, Sandesh Jhingan, Amardeep Singh, Rohtas, Nikhal, Parteek. The man who honed Dhoni’s skills
Mohali, April 25 The former Jharkhand Ranji coach said: “In his earlier days, Dhoni would go into the ground just to blast without any consideration of his responsibility towards the team. But, it came as a pleasant surprise to me when I saw him proving match winner by playing with utmost responsibility in recent matches. “This is the biggest change in Dhoni’s attitude after his entry into international cricket and I am sure it will prove an asset for him as well as for Indian cricket.” Under Venkat’s coaching, Dhoni had played Ranji matches for three years besides seven Duleep Trophy tournaments. Expressing happiness over Dhoni’s elevation to the No. 1 position in the ICC one-day ranking, Venkat hoped that he would prove trump card in World Cup-2007. Venkat, who remained captain of the Bihar Ranji team for seven years and has played 62 first class matches, is the chief coach of the ongoing camp for North Zone (under 19) players at PCA here. Comparing the cricket infrastructure of Bihar with Punjab, the Level-III coach of the National Cricket Academy rated the PCA stadium as one of the best stadiums in the world having all facilities of international standard. Venkat, who believes in creating friendly atmosphere among players during training sessions, is full of praise for the probables of the camp. “Many of them have potential of playing for the country. I am trying to instil confidence in the players besides working on their grey areas”, said Venkat. |
