Teachers resent merger of primary schools
Ludhiana, March 30 The large scale transfers of head teachers and Centre Head Teacher has created a wave of anger among primary teachers. Keeping this issue in the forefront, Nijikaran Virodhi Adhyapak Morcha, Punjab, decided to start a struggle against the education department at a meeting held here today. It was decided that the leaders of different association of teachers threatened to launch an agitation if the government did not take its decision of merger back. The protest rally would be held in front of Primary Directorate and Secondary Directorate on April 3. residential areas
The notices given in the newspapers to the effect that private schools not housed in proper buildings and being run from residential colonies would be closed down and admissions to these schools would be stopped from April 1, have caused a lot of tension among the managements of private schools. Even parents of students studying in these schools are agitated over this. Keeping this fact in mind, the Association of Private Schools held an emergency meeting in Parkash Vidya Mandir under the leadership of Dr Deepak Manan. Chairman of the association Balwant Singh Nirman, vice-chairman Baad Singh, general secretary Rajesh Nagar and finance secretary Sandeep Aggarwal also attended the meeting. A discussion was held and it was decided that a writ petition would be filed against this decision in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A committee of four members was formed. These members would contact the lawyers and start the process of filing the petition. Mr Deepak Manan said the High Court had disallowed the running of private schools in PUDA colonies. But the government had applied this decision on all colonies which was unfair. |
KCW students bag top positions in MSc IT examination

Ludhiana, March 30 Students of the college also clinched the top nine district positions. They include Priya Gupta-first; Rishu-second; Inderpreet Kaur-third; Parampreet Kaur-fourth; Sonia Khurana-fifth; Jasmin Sanghotra-sixth; Amisha Kapoor-seventh; Jasmeet Kaur-eighth; Shikha sood-ninth. Out of the 30 students who had appeared, 18 secured first division. The college girls have maintained the tradition of showing excellent results said the college Principal Dr (Ms ) Varinder Kaur Thind. Contests: The Ministry of Non- Conventional Energy and District Advisory Committee (DAC) for renewal energy organised a district level final painting and declamation contest here at Guru Nanak Bhawan yesterday . The finalists of sub-division level had participated in the competition.Mr Prinyank Bharti, IAS, ADC (D) and member secretary, DAC Ludhiana, presided over the function. Mr Anupam Nanda, District Manager, PEDA, Co-ordinator, DAC Ludhiana, conducted the stage. The chairman of DAC Ludhiana and the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma, stated the motive of the competition, seminar and field visit was to create awareness among the people about non-conventional energy resources. The District Manager of PEDA, Mr Anupam Nanda, also said the natural minerals like coal, oil and other were reducing day by day and the only alternative to save the natural sources was to utilise the potential of non-conventional energy sources and also explained various methods to save and utilise the natural sources. The District Education Officer (DEO), Mr Yash Pal Mehra, the Deputy DEO, Ms Manjeet Kaur, the District Science Supervisor, Mr Varinder Sharma, and Principal Kamaljeet Kaur also participated in the function. The finalists were awarded cash prizes worth Rs 2000, 1500 and 1000 each. Farewell party: The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, Arya College, Ludhiana, organised a farewell party titled ‘‘Rukhsat-2006’’ to bid adieu to M.Com final year students last evening.The Principal, Dr S.M Sharma, presided over the function. A cultural program was organised by students on the occasion. The students of M.Com I put up a scintillating show for their seniors. The highlight of the programme was the fashion and modeling show. Alka Sharma was crowned Ms Farewell whereas Jai was chosen Mr Farewell. Vidushi Sharma was the first runners up, Priyanka Bhakoo bagged the title of Ms Confident, Ms Geetu Sharma received the title of Ms Beautiful Hair, Ms Honey Rawal won the title of Ms Beautiful Smile. The title of Mr Mischievous was bagged by Mr Naveen. Ms Niti Goswami bagged the trophy for best all-rounder. Ms Sarabjit Kaur bagged the title of Beautiful Eyes while Ms Manisha got the title of Ms Graceful. The Principal, Dr S.M Sharma, and Prof H.R Saini, Head of the PG Department of Commerce wished the students good luck in their forthcoming examination. Guest lecture: The Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, organised a guest Lecture on the ‘‘Practical Application of Data Structure’’ here on Wednesday.The resource person was Mr Vikramjit Singh, who is an MCA professional and is working in Flextronics System software as a Senior Software Engineer. He delivered a two- hour- long lecture about the practical application of data structure in wireless communication, VOIP (voice over internet protocol), mobile interface and mobile games. He highlighted the various applications of data structures in industry. He also described how to do work on Windows, Unix, and Linux with the help of data structure. All students of BCA/MCA attended the seminar. Dr (Col ) H.S Singha, Director GNIMT, thanked Mr Vikramjit Singh for an informative and elaborative discussion on data structure. Celebrated: Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Udham Singh Nagar and Kitchlu Nagar, Ludhiana celebrated Nav-Samvat 2063 and the beginning of Navratras with great enthusiasm. A havan was performed at the schools in order to pray for the welfare of all and to inculcate the moral as well the religious values among the students. Students of classes VIII to X, all teachers, the Principal of Udham Singh Nagar branch, Ms Sunil Arora, and members of the BVM Trust, Mr K.C Maini were also present on the occasion. Ms Sunil Arora said ‘‘this day is important in many respects as on this very day Lord Rama was enthroned, the foundation of Arya Samaj was laid, Saint Jhule Lal was born. Celebrations came to a close with the distribution of ‘‘prasad’’ to all the present.Arya Samaj Divas: Arya Samaj Divas was observed in RS Model School to mark the Samvat 2063 . The function began with a yajna. Teachers presented a number of bhajans on the occasion. State Secretary of Arya Samaj Mr Roshan Lal Arya said we have to eliminate social evils like drug addiction, female foeticide etc. |
Shiv Sena leader acquitted
Ludhiana, March 30 The court also acquitted Vijay Dabi under the Arms Act from the charges of illegally possessing a pistol of .12 bore. Initially, Jagdish Tangri and his son were booked under Sections 384 and 34 of the IPC, on
September 2, 2002, following the complaint of a shopkeeper of Gurmandi, Shiv Kumar. Later, other two accused were arrested in this case by the police with the claim that they were also involved in the extortion activities with the prime accused.

Another feature added
to suvidha scheme
Ludhiana, March 30 Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, today informed that with a view to avoiding unnecessary visits by the people to the suvidha window for receiving different kinds of certificates, arms licenses and other completed documents, this facility has been added. He said that now the applicants desirous of getting the issued documents delivered at their residential addresses would have to submit a request letter in the prescribed performa and self addressed envelope pasted with postal stamps of Rs 30 along with the application for different works, including renew, addition etc in arms license and for other documents at suvidha window. He said that as per the prevailing practices, the applicant has to come personally to receive the documents on the given date. The Deputy Commissioner has directed the concerned staff to immediately dispatch the document through posts to such application immediately on the completion of the given work. Mr Verma further informed said that the recently started facility of sending information regarding the status of applications/works at suvidha window through SMS has also started giving excellent results to avoid the repeated rounds of the people to the office. He informed that till date since the launch of facility by the Chief Minister, Punjab, on Republic Day function , a total 2540 SMSs have been sent to the applicants regarding the status of their applications. |
