Tally launches certification programme
Chandigarh, March 12 Addressing a press conference, Mr Avinash Gupta, CEO (Education and Training Business) of the company, said Tally had also tied up with Punjab Infotech and was in the process of starting a number of related courses in various government colleges of Punjab. He said talks with Panjab University, Guru Nanak Dev University and Punjabi University were also on. The certification programme would enable students from any educational background to take a test by paying Rs 990 at any Tally Academy. Those successful would receive a competency certificate declaring them as certified professionals, Mr Gupta said. They could also avail of placement services from Tally. The company also planned to set up 70 more centres within a month across Punjab and hoped to generate 5,000 employment opportunities in the area of financing and accounting. |

Tiny tots enjoy fun games
Ludhiana, March 12 They competed in games like aeroplane race, monkey race, back race and banana race. Games for the parents and grand parents were also conducted. Children presented a karate demo. Ms Bina Rao, chief coordinator, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Ranhir Singh Nagar, gave away prizes to the winners. Ms Kitty Bakshi, Principal of the school, thanked the parents and others who had turned up to encourage the children. Gurmehak, Sargam, Karan, Nirbhey, Adhi, Jasjeer, Virtika, Himansh, Pushkar, Sanjam and Amitoj won prizes. Meanwhile, Kids Zone school, New Chander Nagar, here organised its sports day yesterday. The games were inaugurated by Mr Raj Kumar Malik, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Link Road, Ludhiana. Docs concerned over commission system
Ludhiana, March 12 The meeting also discussed in detail the issue of a doctor of a leading medical institution in the city, who is learnt to have constructed a palatial house with the commission he got from various doctors by referring patients to them. Some of the doctors even suggested taking some action against this “commission agent”. Some doctors, who attended the meeting, said there was a unanimous view at the meeting that the commission system “has ruined the noble profession”. The members were unanimous that there should be an end to this system as this was making treatment costlier. The doctors said the benefit of the commission amount should be passed on to The doctors at the meeting were of the view that the public should be made aware that patients should not visit any specialist with reference slip from any RMP as this was going to make the treatment costlier. The doctors also proposed that the IMA should publish a list of the charges for the various procedures as per the facilities available. IMA members expressed helplessness in curbing this menace as they feared that their business too would come down. The meeting passed three unanimous resolutions, including that no doctor would host parties for quacks. Of late it was seen that many doctors were impressing the quacks by taking them to farm houses for parties. The IMA would socially boycott the doctors indulging in this. The doctors would also not distribute any gifts on Divali, New Year or any similar kind of occasion and no doctor would accept any kind of cut or incentive from their fellow friends. |

140 operated upon at eye camp
Mandi Ahmedgarh, March 12 The camp was inaugurated by Swami Rameshwar Giri Ji while Ms Razia Sultana, Parliamentary Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, was the chief guest. Dr R.N. Bhatnagar and Dr Sachin Walia, both surgeon, said majority of the patients examined by them had ignored the eye health care. “Besides ignoring proper hygiene care of eyes they paid little attention to nutritional constituents required for optimum vision,” maintained the doctors. Appreciating the role of social organisations in providing health facilities to members of weaker sections, Ms Razia Sultana said proper follow up would help in improving life of the poor. As many as 140 persons were operated upon for implanting lenses. The organisers provided medicines and spectacles to the patients and food to their attendants free of cost. Dr K.C. Goel, DHO, Sangrur, Mr Jatinder Bhola, president of the Municipal Council, Ms Santosh Rani, Mr Ravinder Kumar and Mr Kulbhushan Goyal addressed the function marking the culmination of the camp. |

Doctor stresses on contraception awareness
Ludhiana, March 12 Dr Suneeta Mittal, Professor and Head of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at AIIMS, Delhi, and Dr Anita Sabharwal and Dr Ashok, also from Delhi, were the keynote speakers. Dr Mittal said with the prevailing rate of population, India would become the highest populated nation, which would spell disaster for the economy and welfare of the masses. "Women must know about contraceptives. By gaining knowledge of contraceptives and planned families, they can empower themselves as they will be able to get rid of unwanted pregnancies," she said. She said the main objective of the workshop was to sensitise medical professionals so that they could bring about awareness among the masses. Due to lack of awareness, more women were undergoing sterilisation while the same procedure for men was 20 times more easier, she added. Dr Anita Sabharwal and Dr Ashok spoke on anaemia and adolescent health. Dr Avtar Krishan, finance secretary of the IMA, highlighted various IMA programmes. In her inaugural address, the head of Cremica Group, Ms Rajni Bector, emphasised on the role of doctors in checking foeticide. She said the one-child norm was the need of the day, irrespective of the sex of the child. Dr B.S. Shah and Dr Waheguru Pal Singh, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, also addressed the workshop. |
