Uniform syllabi for agricultural engineering students

For undergraduate agricultural engineering students across the country, there will be common syllabi for the first three years. Students will be offered “cafeteria courses” in the fourth year and will undergo mandatory “plant training” in an industry in the final year. During the course of completing their BSc degree, all colleges will provide in-house “exponential” learning experience to the students.

Scared by rain lashing the region yesterday, farmers of the area pray that it should not be followed by hailstorm and winds. Though intermittent rain, accompanied with winds, has already caused a massive loss to the standing wheat crops, some farmers claimed that the scrubbing would improve the yield.

Body decries uprooting of PCMS doctors

The Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association has condemned the decision of the state government to hand over 1,310 health dispensaries in Punjab to panchayats after forcibly replacing regular PCMS doctors posted at these institutions with doctors on contract basis.

Dr Aulakh to lead delegation to Pak

PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. K. S. Aulakh will lead a delegation of eminent agricultural scientists to University of Agriculture, Faislabad, Pakistan ,on Monday. These scientists will participate in the international seminar on “Agriculture in 21st Century-Strategies and Challenges” to be held there from March 14-16.

Degrees conferred on 415 students
Ludhiana, March 11
The annual convocation of Arya College, Ludhiana, was held in the college auditorium here today. Uttaranchal Governor Sudarshan Aggarwal conferred graduate and postgraduate degrees on 415 students of science, humanities, commerce and computer faculties. In his address, he exhorted the students to prepare themselves for tougher challenges in life.
He advised them to work towards creating a compassionate society. He also advised them to help the underprivileged attain higher education.

Lecturer invited to present paper
Ludhiana, March 11
Dr Sukhdev Singh, a senior faculty member of the PG Department of Commerce of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, has been invited to present a research paper on “Management of profitability in commercial banking sectors in India during post-liberalization period” at an international conference on business and information to be organised by the Department of Marketing, Hong Kong Baptist University, Singapore, from July 12 to 14.

Namdhari XI will take on BSF, Jalandhar, in the opening match of the first All-India Guru Gobind Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament to be sponsored by the Namdhari Seeds and organised jointly by the Ludhiana Sportsmen Welfare Association (LSWA) and the PAU Hockey Players Association here at the Prithipal Singh astro-turf stadium of Punjab Agricultural University from March 12 to 16.
