The city police is learnt to have detained two youths in connection with the murder of a financier-cum-spares dealer and his wife, who were brutally stabbed to death in their house in Block-E of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar late last night.

CAs to protest imposition of service tax

Expressing serious concern over the government decision to slap service tax on chartered accountants, which will affect more than 1.3 lakh professionals, the local branch of the Northern India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has decided to hold a protest on March 8 at the office of Chief Commissioner of Income Tax here.

Lok Bhalai Party leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia today claimed that the third front in Punjab was only a matter of time as all formalities had almost been completed. Bharti introduces set-top boxes

Bharti Teletech has introduced direct-to-home (DTH) digital set-top box (STB) in India under the brand name of Beetel. A company press note issue today said the latest model, SD 98, would be a boon to the segment of people who do not have access to cable connections. Priced at Rs 2,095 , the model allows viewing of all free-to-air (FTA) channels.

Seminar at Lajpat Rai DAV College
Ludhiana, March 6
An ICSSR-sponsored seminar on “Craze for greener pastures — exploitation of the aspiring ignorant” was organised at Lajpat Rai DAV College, Jagraon, here today. Deficiency diseases more in villages

Deficiency diseases are more in villages than in cities, observed a team of doctors at a camp organized jointly by the Dev Hospital and Life Line Hospital ,Ludhiana, at Dhulkot Chowk here on Sunday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr MukeshSharma,Executive Magistrate and Dr R. S Maheshwari, Director L.L Hospital presided over the concluding function.
