CPM leader wants all-party meeting on Kashmir
Tribune News Service

Jammu, January 20
In contrast to the stand of the government on Pakistan’s proposal of self-rule, Mr Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, MLA, and state secretary of CPM, today urged PM Manmohan Singh to convene an all-party meeting of Jammu and Kashmir for negotiations on the proposal for a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem.

The CPM is supporting the Cong-led govt in J&K. Statement of Mr Tarigami was contrary to the stand of CM Ghulam Nabi Azad on the issue.

Mr Tarigami said that the meeting should be convened within next two months to help resolve the problem.

The CPM leader also asked the political leadership of J&K to consider the proposal of self rule without prejudice to their political affinities.

Mr Tarigami hailed the Centre’s move for showing willingness to consider any proposal within the parameters set out in this direction.

He appreciated Centre for taking a “positive stand” during the composite dialogue which indicates that the dialogue between India and Pakistan was moving in a positive direction though there was need for giving it momentum.

He said that the dialogue process should continue in a purposeful and forward-looking manner. Sustainable and result-oriented composite dialogue for a meaningful progress towards the settlement of all outstanding issues, including that of Jammu and Kashmir, was inevitable to address the problems of poverty, illiteracy and unemployment. Mr Tarigami suggested that visa restrictions for travel between India and Pakistan should be removed.
