Chandigarh, December 26 As many as 370 patients underwent the eye check-up while 320 patients and school children were examined. Under the programme 350 bottles of eye drops and 35 spectacles were distributed among the patients. |

Chandigarh, December 26 The camp was inaugurated by Yashpal Bhagat, secretary, CGEWCC. As many as 200 employees and their family members were examined at the camp. A para-medical team of Ranbaxy Company, led by Dr Gaurav Sahni conducted a screen test of heel bone to check the strength and density of the bone. |

Chandigarh, December 26 Chandigarh also earned a green card. Vikram opened the account for Chandigarh in the 34 th minute and Jony Sharma made it 2-0 in the 44 th minute. Vikram himself rounded off the tally with a fine goal in the 70th minute. Mizoram won 3-0 and their rivals Jharkhand earned a green card. Mizoram’s marksmen were Bieparysa (35th ), Malsawmfela (42nd) and Lalmuansanga (47th). The victory in a match will have no bearing on the fair play trophy. A state winning the maximum number of green cards will be declared the winners. According to Vision Asia Director Shaji Prabhakaran, the points in four matches would be counted before awarding the fair play trophy. The Sikkim players were good in physique and skills in comparison to other teams. Today they were pitted against Goa whom they downed 5-0. NW Lepcha (1), B Roy (2) and Ashish Chettri (2) were the scorers. However, on the basis of their skill, both teams were awarded green cards. Meghalaya overcame a stiff challenge from Kerala by 3-2 in a keenly contested match. Daman Guha (15 th and 44th minutes) and Honey Mawa (69 th) fashioned Meghalaya’s thrilling win. Mithun Kumar and VV Nair scored in the 34th and 50th minutes, respectively, to reduce the margin for Kerala. Both teams secured important green cards. Vipin Negi scored the important goal as Delhi had a 1-0 triumph over Maharashtra . Green cards were awarded to both teams. Punjab were running into minus points as on the very first day their two players were declared overage by the medical panel. Punjab today drew with Uttranchal by sharing two goals. While Neeraj Singh gave Punjab the lead in the 14th minute, Gaurav Sharma restored parity for Uttranchal in the 23rd minute. Both teams secured green cards. According to Mr Shaji Prabhakaran, who has come from Delhi to pursue the global campaign of Asian Football Confederation, said the festival had helped in promoting football in a big way. He said next year, the selected under 14 boys from all over India would take part in the AFC under-14 tournament to be held in Iran in March next. |
Rotary badminton court inaugurated
Mohali, December 26 Built under the specifications of the Sports Authority of India, on the premises of the Rotary Vocational Training Centre (RVTC), Sector 70, here, the badminton court will be used for holding various badminton competitions besides it will be open for badminton players of the town and for the members and family members of the Rotary Club. The president of Rotary SAS Nagar, Dr B.S Chandhok, said a Rotary Badminton Club would also be formed under the “pay and play” scheme, which will make the court available for everybody. The District Governor distributed various awards and recognition in which five citizens of the town were awarded vocational awards for their dedication and sincere service towards society. These included — Dr Raju Dhir, SMO and Nodal Officer for polio, Mohali, for his contribution towards polio immunisation programe, SI Hakikat Singh, SHO, Phase 8, Mohali, Ms Sadhana Sagar, Head Department of Fine Arts, Govt College, Mohali, Mr Surinder Mahajan, national badminton coach, Sports Authority of India, Chandigarh and Mr S.K. Rana, for their dedicated services towards the cause of Rotary and society. Prizes were also given to the winners of the 21st Nitish Laharry-on-the — spot painting competition held on November 25. Secretary of the club Gurvinder Juneja presented the activity report for the year 2005-06. Dr Chandhok in his presidential address “Looking Ahead” announced the holding of 12 more blood donation camps by the club. |

Road to be widened
Dera Bassi, December 26 To be executed by the Punjab Mandi Board, the project, aimed at widening the current 10 feet road to 18 feet, would cost Rs 1.17 crore. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dhillon claimed that roads measuring only 250 km were recarpeted during the previous Shiromani Akali
Dal (SAD) regime in the Banur Assembly constituency. However, the Punjab Mandi Board had already recarpeted over 300 km of roads during the regime of the current government. Besides, the road being relaid by the board, certain roads, including the Dera Bassi-Barwala, Bhankharpur-Mubarikpur, Mubarikpur-Dera Bassi and Dafarpur-Kakrali roads are being recarpeted by the Punjab PWD. Prominent among those present were Mr Prem Singh, Dera Bassi Congress chief, Mr Balak Ram and Mr Bakhshis Singh, municipal councillors, Mr Iqbal Singh, Director of the Punjab Agricultural Development Board, and Ms Gurpreet Kaur, Member of the local market committee. |
