Jalandhar, December 16
Following non-compliance of its orders, the District Consumer Redressal Forum today directed the Chairman of Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) to appear in person in connection with a case filed by a city resident.

The forum issued the order after the Trust delayed payment of Rs 22,000 as compensation to Ms Sanjogita Bhandari, a resident of Master Tara Singh Nagar, as directed by the forum in its judgment dated July 6 this year. The court observed that the JIT had not complied by the orders and had been repeatedly pleading adjournment of the case.

But today, the forum stated, “It seems that the JIT is intentionally not complying with the orders.”

And as such, it asked the chairman of JIT to appear in person by January 16, show cause why action had not been taken in the case and refund the complainant’s due before the date of appearance.

In her complaint, Ms Bhandari had pleaded that she was the owner of booth number 135 in Master Tara Singh Nagar through public open auction held on October 13, 1999 at a consideration of Rs 6,61,000. An amount of Rs 1,65,250 as earnest money, which was one-fourth of the total consideration, was first paid, she had said.

The balance in five installments on half yearly basis were also cleared as per the schedule, she had added. But she had alleged that she was not given a no due certificate.

Ms Bhandari complained that she received a letter from the JIT saying that a balance of Rs 12,752 be paid. She said that when she approached the accounts officer, she was shocked to see a sum of Rs 52,000 due on her part.

The complainant had asked for a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for harassment.

The JIT, on the other hand, had claimed that the amount had further swollen up as Rs 67,800.

While interacting with media persons in Lyallpur Khalsa College, Dr Sidhu said a committee had been set up in this regard and would give its recommendations soon.

He said such a decision had to be taken after the board received innumerable complaints from parents of students studying in private schools affiliated to PSEB. “The board decided to rationalise the fee structure so that the problem being faced by the parents can be solved to some extent.”

When asked about the affiliations granted to schools flouting PSEB norms, the Chairman said many schools had been notified to abide by the rules for which they had even been given a deadline. About the board’s moves to prevent copying during the forthcoming examinations, Dr Sidhu said, “We have created a database for assigning duties to teachers for invigilation and have directed the staff not to give any city student a centre in a village.”
