Centre upholds election of Dr Ranu
Ludhiana, December 14 In the orders on the subject made by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on November 29, it was stated that the representation of Dr Tejinder Pal Singh, challenging the election of Dr Ranu to the CCH was devoid of sufficient ground or worthwhile evidence in support of the charges levelled by the complainant. Therefore, the representation was being rejected. It may be recalled that Dr Tejinder Pal Singh had filed his nomination papers for contesting elections to the CCH conducted in July this year but his nomination papers were rejected by the returning officer on some technical grounds. Aggrieved by the decision of the returning officer, Dr Tejinder Pal Singh had filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court as well, which was dismissed on July 29. Thereafter, he filed an appeal before the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in which allegations were levelled against the state government as well as the returning officer. Challenging the action of the returning officer in rejecting his nomination papers, he had pleaded that the election of Dr Ranu be declared null and void. The Government of India granted a personal hearing to the complainant and opinion of the Law Ministry was also obtained before dismissal of the representation made by Dr Tejinder Pal Singh. The delay in issuing the notification about the election to the CCH by the Union Government had already been challenged by the victorious candidate Dr P.S. Ranu by way of a civil writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and a notice had already been issued to the Union of India for December 16. |
