Ruckus in MC House over demand for CBI probe

The issue of mysterious death of a municipal councillor of Mandi Ahmedgarh, whose body was found in a canal near here eight months ago, rocked a meeting of council today, when two councillors demanded a CBI inquiry into the sequence of events leading to his death and accused the president of shielding the accused by not incorporating their demand in the proceeding register.

Suspended students try to disrupt college exam

Students appearing for the mid-term examination at Arya College here got disturbed today when a few suspended students tried to disrupt the smooth functioning of the college. A minor altercation took place between the Principal, Dr S.M. Sharma, and the suspended students, however, the matter was sorted out when Dr Sharma asked them to call their parents at the earliest.

MC for cut in water, sewerage rates

Some unidentified robbers tried to decamp with valuables at Basti Jodhewal branch of Punjab National Bank here last night. They, however, could not break open the strong room of the bank.

Girl was raped, says report

The police has identified the minor girl, who was allegedly raped and found from an agricultural field near Jassian village yesterday. She is a resident of a colony near Civil Hospital.

Pulse polio drive a success, claims Health Dept
Ludhiana, December 13
The Health Department here claimed that during the two days of the ongoing pulse polio drive in the district, an estimated 92 per cent of the 5.22 lakh eligible children in the age group of 0-5 years were immunised. The campaign was stipulated to end this evening, but the officials said if there were more children still to be vaccinated, the campaign could be extended for a day or so.

Indian coaches not well-versed with new techniques: Grewal

Indian coaches are not well-versed in new cycling techniques and if we intend to improve our standard at international meets, we must recruit foreign coaches. These views were expressed by Mr J.S. Grewal, General Secretary, Cycling Federation of India, during an interaction with mediapersons while supervising proceedings of road races on the third day of the 25th BSA Asian Cycling Championship and the 12th Junior Asian Cycling Meet at the stretch between Doraha and Khanna today.
