From Schools Tribune Reporters Ludhiana, December 5 The function began with the ‘welcome song and was followed by Saraswati Vandana to invoke the blessings of Goddess of Learning. Ms Usha Jain, Principal of the school, welcomed the parents and guests and read out the annual report. The cultural programme comprised Rajasthani dance, Naga dance, western dance and a ‘mime show’ which explained the importance of ‘balanced diet’ in a very effective manner. Mr Chander Shekhar gave away the prizes. The programme ended with a Punjabi dance. GRD Academy The annual prize distribution at the GRD Academy Ludhiana was held last evening. It marked the culmination of the year-long activities in the school. The two-hour cultural extravaganza comprised Bharatnatyam, one-act play, skits and dances, besides prize presentation to approximately 150 students. Mr G.S. Jagpal, principal, read the annual report, of the school. Sovina and Aashir were adjudged the best students in co-curricular activities in the senior and junior categories respectively. Rajwinder Singh and Gurbpreet Kaur were adjudged the best athletes in the senior school, whereas Harshdeep Singh and Harsimran Kaur were declared best in athletics in the junior school. Wg Cdr Paramjit Singh Sibia (retd), Chairman, Improvement Trust Ludhiana, was the chief guest. He gave away the prizes to the winners and exhorted the students to hone their talents. Harkrishan Public School Doraha: Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Doraha, organised a function here yesterday. Students recited shabads and gave speeches on the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev, Guru Teg Bahadur, and the four Sahibzadas. The concluding shabad was from Dasam Granth. Principal Prabhjot Bal presented the school’s annual report. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Gen Joginder Singh. Mrs Amrit Kaur Gurm, president of the managing committee, thanked the guests and parents for gracing the occasion. At the end langar was also served. |
Kangaroo Kids organise ‘creepy and crawlies day’ Ludhiana, December 5 Classrooms were transformed into colourful learning centres decorated with artistic displays, models and pictures where children viewed the metamorphosis of caterpillars; life cycles of spider, ladybug and other such species. Astonishing facts and figure were creatively imparted with the help of short stories, puppet shows, movies, and exciting hands on activities. Teachers had a field day as they donned the garb of bees, butterflies, and ladybugs and indulged in songs and dances, which enthralled the little ones. As the creepy and crawlies jostled for space, giving them competition were the dinosaurs, as children took a walk though a Jurassic Park-like set up. They also conducted a quiz at the end of it all. Experts from diverse fields spoke to children on apiculture and vermiculture. An insect and reptile shop sold goodies and other accessories, as a Polaroid Photoshop saw children strike a pose dressed as their favorite characters. The activity room had butterfly paintings, games, insect tee-shirts, caps, insect modelling and a tattoo corner. |
Workshop on personality development Ludhiana, December 5 The lectures were given on students’ personality development, their inclination towards their objective goal, developing their role in self assessment. A group discussion and a mock interview was also conducted to inspire the students so that they could find their objective goals. The distinguished people present were Principal Ajay Batra, Prof Charanjit Singh, Prof Navjot Singh Prof Deepinder Kaur, Prof Preet Kawal Kaur Prof Charanjit Kaur and Prof Navdeep Kaur. |
Seminar on career-making Ludhiana, December 5 He said students could choose degree as well as diploma courses in different streams as there were a lot of fields. Mr Sunil Maria, president of the school, said the world was becoming competitive and everyone was in the rat race, hence the right choice of
career assured importance. He emphasised that parents and teachers had to play a very protective role in the overall development of the child for a worthy performance in the intensely competitive world of academic and careers. |
Versatile strokes her forte Ludhiana, December 5 Talking about her artistic journey she said,‘‘I love to paint and gift my work to friends besides selling it. Before marriage only my paintings were lapped up by the people. After marriage my husband was very encouraging and it is only with his co-operation that I am able to carry on with my painting work’’. She specialises in 3-D effect paintings which she makes by using different mediums like glitters, colours, coffee powder, ceramic powder, POP, and fevicol etc. Cheenu says,‘‘The thicker the relief work is, the more effective it is as relief work provides three dimensional effect.’’ Cheenu is equally proficient in oils and has made several beautiful paintings in oils Apart from this she also makes Tanjore-style paintings using gold foil and semi-precious stones. She says,‘‘ Tanjore paintings take a long time to complete. I am also going to experiment with straw and other materials in near future. I have made paintings using unbreakable acrylic sheets, and now I am making paintings in Chinese style in form of panels.’’ At present she is making a painting of Jesus Christ on glass which she plans to gift to the nuns of Sacred Heart Convent School as it is her alma mater. |
