Correspondence blues for MCom students
Shivani Bhakoo

Ludhiana, November 15
Students of MCom (IInd year annual system of correspondence studies) are facing a lot of problems while choosing the optional papers of MC 613 and MC 614. Except for supplying study material of one option each of the total 12, the Department of Correspondence Studies (DCS) refuses to provide the necessary material of other options, alleged students and staff of a local college here.

Mr Deepak Dhingra of the PG Department of Commerce, Kamla Lohtia SD College, said here that students of MCom (IInd year) were having six options each to choose from papers MC 613 and MC 614. But in paper MC 613, the DCS would supply the study material for MC 613 — Ist option (investment and financial services management) and if a student opted for any option except MC 613 - I, the DCS would not supply any study material for these options.

“The same is the case with paper MC 614. The DCS will supply study material for MC 614 — IIIrd option only (legal framework for services). Students opting for the remaining five choices will not be provided with any study material by the DCS”, alleged Mr Dhingra.

Confusion prevailed among students while selecting the options due to non-availability of study material. Not only this, the DCS had already charged a hefty amount from students on account of study material for all options, alleged Mr Dhingra.

Ludhiana, November 15
Students of JD Institute celebrated Children’s Day with those abandoned by their loved ones at Swami Vivekanand Vridh Ashram here yesterday. Inmates of the ashram shared some moments of love, affection and gratitude with the students.

The fun-filled afternoon had all ingredients to leave an indelible mark on their minds. The students sang famous Hindi and Punjabi numbers to entertain the senior citizens. They clapped endlessly when Pooja and Gurwinder sang Punjabi “tappe”. Isha kept regaling all inmates with her jokes. The students of interior designing presented a beautiful hand-made tile as souvenir to the inmates.

Sharing her experiences with the students, Bimla Rani (name changed) said: “My son is a Principal and I have been left to lead a lonely life here. We tried to instil moral values in them but to no use.” Tears were rolling down her cheeks as she related her woes. Another octogenarian, Kamla said: “We have unlimited love and blessings in stock with us. Rather, that is all we have. Anyone can take as much as she/he wants.”

Ms Pragati Taneja, Director of the institute, said: “We try to bring smile on the faces of those, who have been rendered helpless by their own. No doubt, the inmates are being well looked after, well maintained but they just need some warmth and personal touch. They have been leading mundane life. Such interactions are an attempt to bring care and affection to them. These activities make them feel happy and precious.”
