Schools celebrate annual day
Ludhiana, November 13 The main attraction of the function was a play, “Sita Swayamvar”. Mono acting by Avi Malhotra made the gathering laugh while fusion dance and a group dance, “Aisa Des Hai Mera” received a wild applause. Another play, “Mother’s Day” gave a lesson to the audience to respect the elderly. Harmanveer, a student of KG, presented “Chhalla” while another kid Vriti gave a stunning dance performance which was appreciated by each one. Earlier, Mr Harnam Dass Johar, Education Minister, Punjab, inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional Saraswati jyoti. This was followed by Ganesh vandana. Ms Vandana, a doctor in the city and an old student of this school, was the guest of honour on this occasion. Mr Mitter Sain, president of the Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Trust; members of the management committee of BVM schools; Ms Santosh Mehra and Mr Baljeet Singh Gill, Principal and Vice-Principal, respectively, of BVM School, Kitchlu Nagar branch; Ms Anu Kathuria, Principal of BVM, Shishu Vatika; and parents of students attended the function. As many as 65 students were given prizes for their meritorious achievements during the previous academic session. Mr Johar appreciated the management for organising the function and encouraged the students to do their best in the field of studies. He also announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh for the development of the school. Meanwhile, tiny tots of Whiz Kid Playway School celebrated Children’s Day here yesterday. A dance competition was held. Chacha Nehru was remembered and the importance of the day was described to the children. The Love Dale Club oganised a collage-making competition in lieu of Children’s Day and Gurpurb. The topics were festivals, natural calamities and current affairs. Club members came up with unique ideas like Guru Nanak Deviji’s life history and earthquakes. The prizes were as follows: group I — Ishita (1st), Kartikey (IInd), Aryan (IIIrd); group II — Zoya (Ist), Shubam (IInd), Bisman (IIIrd); group III — Chahat (Ist), SehajPreet (IInd), Impu (IIIrd); group IV — Medha (Ist), Neha (IInd), Rehmat (IIIrd); and group V — Mansi (Ist), Surbhi (IInd), Vibhu (IIIrd). MANDI AHMEDGARH: Students and staff of Guru Hargobind Public School celebrated the annual prize distribution function and Children’s Day at Chhapar Road on Saturday. Mr Jagpal Singh Khangura, a Congress leader, presided over the function and Mr Manmohan Singh, chairman of the Market Committee, gave away prizes to meritorious students. The function started with the annual report being read by Ms Gursharan Kaur, Principal of the school. Songs, skits and poems were presented during the cultural programme. “Shaheed Choreography”, recollecting memories of the Kargil war, impressed the audience the most. Besides felicitating the meritorious students, the organisers presented mementos to Dr Vikas Hind and Dr B.S. Kehal for their outstanding contribution to society. |
Kids showcase talent at exhibition
Ludhiana, November 13 The chief guest showed keen interest in all 22 exhibits on display. The exhibits included kiddies corner, art, craft, soft toys, computer, flower arrangement, physics, chemistry, biology, language lab, maths , salads, desserts, mehndi, rangoli, history, civics & economics and geography. At the kiddies corner, everybody was surprised to see what the tiny fingers could create. The paintings displayed in the art section spoke of hardwork, labour and talent of young artists of TPS. |
GGN institute conducts workshop

A.S. Chawla, Professor of Management, Punjabi University, Patiala at a workshop ‘Participant Centred Learning’ conducted at GGN Institute of Management and Technology here yesterday. Dr Chawla said, “Panacea for this low interest learning is participant centered learning where the teacher is more of facilitator encouraging students to learn from situations, experiences and even movies in order to develop their analytical, interpersonal and communication skills”. He made the learning experiential through a case study highlighting environmental issues and organisational conflict. Excitement and joy to the participants was provided by Prof K.K. Uppal, when he played a few management games. The games demonstrated the reasons for actions, perceptions and problems. These pedagogical tools sensitised the participants about the importance of active and situational learning that happens because of taking ownership to discover and learn. Kirandeep of MBA third semester said the workshop was interesting as it teased us to think, analyse and learn without stress. Students pledge to emulate Nehru
Ludhiana, November 13 “We wanted to organise the function tomorrow. However, it being a Sunday today, we could spare more time as we would be busy tomorrow,” said Sagar Chhabra, a student. His friends Sehaj Pal and Yuvraj said the day had a special importance for them. Although they had not seen the late Prime Minister, they wanted someone to love them the way he did. Sumit Chawla and Sarthak, while enjoying the party, said they wanted to follow in the footsteps of the great leader. Anmol, another student, said. “The foundation of a strong future of the country lies in our hands. We need to be shown a direction. The anecdotes of our great leaders are enough to show us the way.” |

Vedic declamation contest held
Ludhiana, November 13 After the ceremonial lamp lighting ceremony, judges Dr Sanjeev Dawar, HoD (Hindi) R.K. Arya College, Nawanshahar and Mrs Sarita Matta, lecturer, English, DD Jain College, Ludhiana were introduced. Students from 19 schools of Ludhiana participated. Each school was represented by two students who had the choice to express their view in English as well as in Hindi. The results: English Tanzeem, KVM city branch 1; Neha Arora BCM Arya Model Senior School, Shastri Nagar 2; Kuldeep Kaur, GGN Public School, near Rose Garden 3. Consolation- Harmanpreet Singh, GN Public school, Sarabha Nagar. Hindi Sheeba, KVM School, Civil Lines 1; 2 Manpreet Kaur, GGN Public School, near Rose Garden 2; Tushar Mittal, DAV Public School, BRS Nagar 3 and consolation — Navjot Kaur GN Public School, Sarabha Nagar. Science seminar concludes
Ludhiana, November 13 Addressing teachers, Principal Sarabjeet Kaur advised the teaching community to impart education to students so as to improve and upgrade their skills. Resource person Kanwaljit Singh (GNEC) delivered a lecture on Internet technology. Prof Amrita (Malwa College of Education) spoke about child psychology and child behaviour. Mr Balvinder Singh Dehlon gave a lecture on telescope, satellite and magnetism. Ms Kusum Lata explained about various concepts of general science, laying emphasis on teaching aids. A lecture on environmental education was delivered by Mr Devinder Chhina. Dr Shashi Trehan and Principal Sarabjeet Kaur also delivered lecturers. The seminar was addressed by coordinator Surinder Pal Singh Dandhar, Ms Sudesh Bajaj, Mr P.P. Singh (Raikot) and Prof Kanwaljit Singh (GNEC). |
