ADMINISTRATION

Admn may transfer more powers to MC
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 28
The Chandigarh Administration proposes to delegate more powers to the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC), the local MP, Mr Pawan Bansal, indicated here today.

Participating in the discussion at the 95th meeting of the civic body today, Mr Bansal said Chandigarh Administration officials might propose to transfer more powers to the MCC at the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Home Ministry to be held at New Delhi on November 8.

Raising the issue, a former Senior Deputy Mayor, Mr Pradeep Chabbra, termed the recent notification transferring certain powers to the MCC as “mere eyewash”. The Mayor, Mr Anu Chatrath, wanted a special meeting to discuss the transfer power. However, Mr Bansal said the civic body should not rake up the issue when the administration was in the process of giving more functions to the corporation.

In another important decision, it was decided to reduce the age for membership of the community centres for the senior citizens from 65 years to 60 years.

The setting up of the second electric furnace at the electric crematorium in Sector 25, the adoption of the administration’s notification on Right to Information Act, 2005 and the construction of residential quarters at the fire station in Mani Majra were also okayed at the meeting.
