Kalam for policy on death penalty, pardon
New Delhi, October 26
President A P J Abdul Kalam today sent a strong message to the Manmohan Singh government today calling for a debate in Parliament about the death penalty and grant of clemency by the Head of State.

PM orders Punjab to four-lane road to Attari
New Delhi, October 26
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has instructed the Punjab government to take up the four-laning of Amritsar-Attari road on a priority basis in view of the intensifying economic engagement with Pakistan which has already started four-laning of Lahore-Wagah border road.

BSF jawan killed in car bomb blast
Srinagar, October 26
A jawan of the BSF was killed and 35 persons, including 29 personnel of the force, were injured in a car bomb explosion at Lawaypora, about 10 km north of here, on the Srinagar-Baramula highway this afternoon.

SC upholds Gujarat Govt ban on cow slaughter
New Delhi, October 26
In a major victory for the BJP Government in Gujarat, propogating a total ban on cow slaughter, the Supreme Court in a majority decision today upheld the State’s 1994 law prohibiting slaughter of cows and their progeny, the bulls and bullocks.

Sq Ldr K.R. Murthy, the test pilot of the MiG-21 aircraft which crashed at Bangalore airport today, died in a hospital this evening, an IAF spokesman said.
