Fashion students stage play
S.D. Sharma

Theatre is the greatest medium of human expression in the times of conflict and crisis. This has inspired the students of the Delhi School of Fashion Technology to bare the human soul in their maiden presentation of “Ek Andruni Maut” staged at the Tagore Theatre today.

Presented under the aegis of The Performers Theatre group, New Delhi, in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre, the play was based on Chinese playwright Lu Shuns’ famous classic “A Mad Man’s Diary”. The script in Hindustani was evolved at the National School of Drama and directed by Srijon Bhattacharjee. Following a spate of tragic incidents, the protagonist, Umasahanker, is frustrated. Initially the people around sympathise with him, and gets him treated but later label him as insane. But the impelling circumstances had taught him the hard realities of life and he realises that all men are selfish, pitted against each other for personal gains.

The play sought to secure an imaginative contrast between the ideal and the real. The youngsters had attempted to give the concept a good treatment through narratives.

Munish Sharma, playing the protagonist, leads the cast with Ravi Raj, Saurab Bhagoria, Srijon Bhatacharya. Music by Vaibhav Bandhu augments the production level which need to be improved.

Earlier, the chief guest, and noted theatre icon, Rudraprasad Sengupta, Kamal Tewari and RT Jindal, IAS lighted the traditional lamp.
