Ludhiana, October 16 The students from Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Kitchlu Nagar, also took part in it and got information about the opportunities in the fields of aviation, hospitality and travel management which they can opt for after Class XII. Ms Savita Chadha, Central Head, Frankfinn Institute of Air-Hostess Training, made the students acquaint with different courses, eligibility criteria, age limit, duration of time, physical requirements to enter into these industries, etc. She also apprised the students about different career options like air hostess, guest relation officer, customer care executive, cabin crew, commercial staff etc. Annual function: The annual function of Master Tara Singh Memorial Public Middle School was held here on Sunday. Dr Madanjit Kaur Shota, Principal of the Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, and Mr Sardar Swaran Singh, president of the managing committee, were the chief guests.Students, attired in colourful outfits, presented a cultural programme. The function commenced with the recitation of shabad “De Shiva Var Mohe”. The programme included dance performances and dandia. The Principal of the school, Ms Jatinder highlighted the achievements of the school. |

Musical evening organised
Ludhiana, October 16 To celebrate the 76th birthday of Lata Mangeshkar, the member had organised the musical evening wherein 12 singers sang choicest of Lata's songs. Rana Siddiqui conducted the stage well and introduced the singers to the audience. Simran of Chandigarh started the evening by singing “Satyam Shivam Sunderam” while Harjit Singh sang “Mere Naina Barse Rimjhim.” The chief guest on the occasion was Mr T.S. Dhillon, OPS Punjab and DIG CRPF, Jalandhar Range, while the guest of honour was Ms Rajni Bector, MD, Cremica Foods, and Mr Krishan Myer of UK. |

British surgeon to visit city
Ludhiana, October 16 Dr Russel is the Chairman of the British Journal of Surgery, a prestigious journal of surgeons all over the world, and is also the Chief Editor of “Text Book of Surgery by Love and Bailey,” known as the Bible of surgery for all medical graduates and postgraduates. Giving this information here today, Dr Kuldip Singh, Professor of Surgery at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said Dr Russel had contributed more than 150 scientific papers in national and international journals and had performed record number of pancreatic surgeries, including cancer of pancreas and benign conditions. The visiting British surgeon will deliver a lecture at ACADIMA-2005, the national conference of the Indian Medical Association here on October 21. |
Docs send relief to quake-hit
Ludhiana, October 16 A four-member team of the IDPD also proceeded to Srinagar, where the material would be distributed in coordination with the J&K unit of the body. According to Dr Arun Mitra, general secretary of the IDPD, the truck carried 1,000 blankets, 600 sweaters and 100 windcheaters, along with other articles of daily use for the people affected by the devastating earthquake. He said a medical team of the IDPD was also being kept in readiness which would leave for the affected area as and when desired by the concerned state unit to provide medical assistance to the victims. |
Vatish, Deepa win TT titles
Ludhiana, October 16 In the final, Deepa quelled a strong
challenge from her city-mate Lovepreet whom she prevailed upon in five sets. Deepa lost the first set at 7-11. However, in the next game, Deepa got her acts together to level the score with winning it 11-7. She wrapped up the third set at 11-5 but had to fight tooth and nail in the fourth set 13-11. In the deciding set, Deepa, after surviving some anxious moments, managed to pip her rival 11-9 and clinched the title. In the boy's section, Vatish Kapoor came out triumphant without much resistance by his opponent Sahil Mattu, also from Amritsar. Vatish won the final 11-8, 17-15 and 11-6. Earlier, in the semifinals, Vatish beat Ravinder of Fatehgarh Sahib while Sahil got the better of Ravi Dang of Patiala whereas in the girl's section, Deepa beat Kirti of Ludhiana and Lovepreet defeated Vaneet Rani of Ropar. Basketball body condoles coach’s death
Ludhiana, October 16 Gurdas Ram is survived by his wife and two sons. He had served with the Punjab Police and the Sports Authority of India as senior coach for some time. In a condolence message, Mr Teja Singh, general secretary, PBA, said Mr Rajdeep Singh Gill, ADGP, Punjab and president, Basketball Federation of India, Sajjan Singh Cheema, Anil Punj, Ajmer Singh, Suman Sharma, Parminder Singh Happy, all Arjuna awardees (basketball), Olympian Paramdeep Singh Teja, Ranbir Chopra, former captain of the Indian basketball team, Amarjot Singh, and Dr S Subramanian, former Director, NIS, Patiala, have expressed grief over the former player's demise. |
