‘International standards for domestic cricket series at PCA’
Tribune News Service

Mohali, October 8
“Ours is not a money-making motive, whatever PCA would earn would be ploughed back to promote domestic cricket and the game at the grass-root level that is in improving the infrastructure at the school levels”, said Mr I.S. Bindra, president, PCA, while addressing a press conference at the PCA conference hall, here, today.

The PCA is gearing up to host the Kingfisher Challenger Series of NKP Salve Trophy. The tournament, comprising four one-day matches, all day night, would be held at the PCA stadium from October 10 to 13.

This is for the first time that any domestic tournament has secured a global broadcast footprint. The event will be telecast in the USA on Direct TV, in Canada on ATN, in UK and Europe on Zee TV and in the Middle East on Ten Sports, besides being telecast live and exclusive on Zee Sports in India. Another new beginning is that it will be streamed live on the Internet through willow. TV and near live clips will be broadcast on mobile handsets in India.

New experimental laws like power play and substitute super sub would be tried in this tournament. “ We seek clarification on some points, after that we will try our hand on them”, Mr Bindra said.

“Though there is disparity between domestic cricket and international cricket on all grounds, we are trying to be trend-setters in bringing the domestic game to the standards set for international one”, said Mr M.P. Pandove, secretary, PCA.

The all-star commentary team would be Srinath, Arun Lal, L. Sivaramakrishnan and Ayaz Memon. Nimbus Sport has signed with Kingfisher to be the title sponsor for the tournament.

“We are treating this tournament as a full-blown international series and viewers can expect international standard coverage”, Mr Pandove added.
