Ski village project a sellout: BJP
Shimla, October 6 The BJP said the draft agreement signed with the Himalayan Ski Village Limited was a complete sellout as the interest of the state as well as its people had not been protected. “We welcomed foreign direct investment or private sector ventures in the state but certainly not at the cost of the interest of the state,” Mr Suresh Bhardwaj, state BJP chief, said while addressing a press conference here today. He said it was surprising that for a project estimated to cost about Rs 15,000 crore, a paltry sum of Rs 10 lakh had been taken as guarantee. “Almost 2,300 bighas of government land and 600 bighas owned by farmers is being given to the company at a throwaway annual lease amount of Rs 40 crore,” he said. Whereas the minimum amount of lease money that should have been fixed should be somewhere near Rs 500 crore annually, he added. The BJP chief said the project would involve felling of thousands of trees, which is bound to adversely affect the ecology and environment of the area. “The people too were against this as no provision had been made to ensure executive jobs for them and only the lower level jobs would come their way,” said Mr Bhardwaj. A lot of questions were being raised on the manner in which the government had agreed to give all rights for power generation to the company, with the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board having no say or control. “Under Section 118 of the Land Reform and Tenancy Act, the company could give land on lease or sub-lease to any outsider without the Cabinet or administrative approval,” he disclosed. The BJP chief said the government had surprisingly agreed to give complete rights of the use of roads to the company with no mention as to who would undertake their maintenance. “The provision that all surveys pertaining to forest, electricity potential and revenue, undertaken by the government after spending crores, would be made available to the company on the payment of a mere Rs 10 lakh clearly indicated that undue benefit was being given. Mr Bhardwaj said the draft MoU clearly stated that in case there was no response from the government within three months, the MoU would be deemed to be accepted. “In case the government did not change the terms and conditions, not only the people of the Kullu valley but also the BJP would launch an agitation,” he threatened. |
Dhumal slams Congress over KGB payoffs
Hamirpur, October 6 Addressing a press conference, he said that these disclosures, along with the contents in the book by a former IB official, were not only sensational but a matter of shame for any Indian. “The former IB official has said four Congress Ministers and nearly two dozen MPs at that time were on the pay-roll of KGB as they were provided monetary benefits by the Russian intelligence agency,” he said. The BJP chief, Mr L.K. Advani, had, on October 2, demanded that the UPA Government should come out with a white paper on the sources of funding of political parties from abroad. He had also sought constitution of a commission, under a Supreme Court judge, to probe into the allegations. “It is a matter of shame that when a Cabinet Minister approached the KGB for selling important documents for a price of $ 50,000, he was told that the Russian intelligence had already got these secret documents,” said Mr Dhumal. The contents in the book, published by top officials of Russia, USA and India at different points of time, have made the common man suspicious about how safe the country is in the hands of the Congress and the left parties. |
Vets’ plea to govt on NPA anomalies
Shimla, October 6 It asserted that conditions governing the veterinarians and the medicos employed in the state had to be the same as per recommendations of the pay commission. As such the two categories should be healed on a par. The association also demanded filling of vacant posts which was a major bottleneck in providing quality veterinary services to the farmers in the far-off areas. |
