PowerGrid clobber MOP in kabaddi

Chandigarh, September 23
The seventh Inter-Central Power Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Kabaddi Tournament, under the aegis of the Power Sports Control Board, is here today at the Football Stadium, Sector 17.

In Pool A matches, Power Grid XI downed MOP team by 42-03 points while BBMB defeated PFC by 48-16. In yet another tie, BBMB beat Power Grid by 58-12.

In Pool B matches, SJVNL outplayed NHPC by 29-04 and defeated CEA by 57-15.

In Pool A, Powergrid XI beat PFC 50-17 and BBMB defeated MOP 23-20, in another tie MOP defeated PFC 12-05 while in Pool B matches, SJVNL defeated CEA by 52-04. Tomorrow the finals will be played.

Probables for girls soccer

The Chandigarh Junior Girls Football Championship for St Stephen’s Challenge Trophy will be held from September 26 at the St Stephen’s school, Sector 45.

According to Mr Rakesh Bakshi, Secretary of the Chandigarh Football Association, eight teams are taking part in this meet. During this meet, 30 probables will be selected for a coaching camp for the forthcoming Junior Girls National Soccer meet.

Kinshuk clinches doubles title

Kinshuk Sharma, a Sector 10 CLTA, trainee pairing Siddharth Hande, today clinched the doubles title in the ITF Juniors International Tennis Tournament being played at Hyderabad. They outplayed Rohan Gide and Siddharth Alapathi 6-4, 6-3 in the finals.

In the boys singles section, Kinshuk has entered the finals of the tournament when he defeated Gilbert Wong Tze Chun of Hong Kong 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the semi finals. Now Kinshuk will play his singles finals tomorrow against Rohan Gide.

It may be recalled earlier that Kinshuk had won singles and doubles events held at Islamabad and Lahore earlier this month. Kinshuk, who is a student of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Chandigarh, plays in the Elite Group in the CLTA’s Coaching Scheme.

Gurvinder, Suman win gold in 1500m

Chandigarh, September 23
Gurvinder Singh, a student of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, clinched gold medal in 1500 metres (boys under 19) in the CBSE Cluster XIII Athletic Championships which began at the Sector 46 Sports Complex here today.

Suman Lata of GAV School, Solan, won gold in 1500 metres for girls under 19. Geetika of Chapslee School, Shimla, and Manju of Sharda Sarvhitkari-40, Chandigarh, finished second and third, respectively.

Vivek Rana of Chapslee School of Shimla won gold medal in the 1500 metres race (boys under-16). Anand Kumar got silver medal. The bronze medal was claimed by Narinder Panth of GAV, Solan. Namrata of Chaman Lal Public School, Sector 11, Panchkula, was awarded gold medal in 1500 metre race for girls under-16. Deepshikha of GAV, Solan and Sukhdeep Kaur of Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, Chandigarh, got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

YPS cricket team for all-India meet

Chandigarh, September 23
A 16-member cricket team of Yadavindra Public School, Mohali will take part in the All-India Inter Public Schools (IPSC) Cricket Meet to be held at Mayo College, Ajmer, from September 27 to October 3. Mr Praveen Singha will accompany the team as coach-cum-manager. In this meet, the selection trials to select IPSC team for the National School Games will also be held.

The team is: Abhishek Gagnesh, Ramandeep Singh, Tajbinder Singh, Jotbinder Singh, Shivam, Amit Sharma, Arshdeep Brar, Gurjinder Brar, Mir Dawar, Taranveer Singh, Karanbir Singh, Anshuman, Manav Narang, Harprateek Singh, Bhanu Pratap, Aatish Bhalaik.

Meanwhile, a 12-member YPS basketball team left for Gwalior to take part in the All-India Inter-Public Schools (IPSC) Basketball meet which is being held at Scindia School, Gwalior, would conclude on September 27.

The team is: Abhideep Singh, Akshdeep Singh, Gurvinder Mann, Gagandeep Singh, Deepan, Bhupinder, Wasim, Harkirat, Simran, Harsh Raj, Amrit Pal and Ravnoor. Manager: Mr Darshan Singh Kooner.

Sohana team wins kabaddi event

Sohana, September 23
An annual rural sports meet commenced today with much fanfare at the village playground, here today.

The three-day event is being organised in the memory of late Baba Hanuman Singh by Baidwan Sports Club Sohana in which various events, including kabaddi tournament and dog races held today. The villagers turned up in hundreds to watch the events.

On the opening day, Sohana kabaddi team (A) prevailed over their rivals in finals in 32 kg category and bagged first place while the Sohana team (B) got the second place. Under 37 kg category, Gurdita pur (Patiala) team thrashed Bariyali kabaddi team in the finals and in under 42 kg category, Chhat Bir kabaddi team ensured its place in the finals by beating Gama team in the semifinals. Chhat Bir team will face Bariyal team in the finals.

Apart from this, around 20 dogs took part in the races in which Ajit Singh Dhanola’s dog ( Rank Chitra) was adjudged to be the best while the second place went to Unkar Singh’s dog ( Rubi Lal).

MCM DAV to meet GGS College in final

MCM DAV College for Women beat AS College for Women, Khanna(3-0) in the semifinals of the Panjab University Inter-College Table Tennis( Men and Women) tournament being played at Gymnasium Hall, PU Campus, here today.

In another semifinal, GGS College for Women, Chandigarh, thrashed Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh, by 3-1. In men’s quarterfinal PU Campus, Chandigarh, outplayed Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Abohar, and Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh beat Government College, Sector 11, in a one-sided affair and the score stood at 3-0 in both matches.
