The delegation included Dr GS Grewal, Dr RS Thind, Dr RS Chauhan and Dr Sudhir Dhakre. The delegation spent about a week in the university during a study tour. The delegation members disclosed that even after the disintegration of the USSR, Odissa Medical University continued to maintain its academic and clinical standards. It is an over 100-year-old university recognised all over the world. The delegation members said one of the important features of the university was that the education was imparted both in English and the native language. There are a number of Indian students also studying in the university. Moreover, there is no hostility towards the Indians and Indian students are always welcome. Odissa Medical University is located close to the Ukraine capital, Kiev. The delegation members said although Ukraine was not rich like other European countries and was still emerging from the shocks of the USSR collapse, yet the quality of life was better. Ludhiana, September 6 Mr A.S. Narula, and Mr Daljit Singh Bakshi, president and member of the local forum, respectively pronounced the order while disposing of the complaint filed by Mr Tarlok Singh of New Shivaji Nagar, Ludhiana. The complainant had submitted that he had purchased two hair wash soaps for Rs 18 in March 2002, under the impression that the soaps carried various prizes under scratch window offer. Because it was printed on the soap packet that ‘ Inam Hasil Karen Le Dabi Nu Ander To Khol Ke Dekho’, but he was stunned when he scratched as per instructions and found the words’’ please try again’’, further added the complainant. The complainant termed it as a unfair trade practice adopted by the company to promote its sale. On the other hand, the soap company refuted the allegations of adopting unfair trade practice and termed them baseless. It also denied that the complainant ever purchased their product as alleged. It was asserted by the company that the prizes would be given to the lucky winners only, who had won the prizes after scratching the soap dabi. The prizes were not to be given to all persons, who had purchased the soaps during the validity of sale promotional scheme. However, the scheme was closed on May 31, 2002, and a number of prizes were given to the lucky winners. But after appreciating the evidence on record the forum termed the slogan to be misleading and passed orders accordingly. |
