Seminar organised
: Fortis Hospital, Amritsar organised a “health awareness seminar” here on Sunday. Over 150 persons attended the seminar which focused on maximising the life of a replaced joint. 

KAPURTHALA
Two booked
: The police has booked Davinder Singh and Kuldeep Kumar Babbu for an attempt to murder Mr Surjeet Singh, an NRI, here on Sunday. He was coming out of Sant Prem Singh Charitable Hospital in his car when the accused allegedly attacked him on Thursday injuring him seriously. The accused took away his mobile phone, wrist watch and cash amounting to Rs 80,000. A case has been registered.

Body found: The body of a plumber, Amritpal Singh was found near the Civil Hospital here on Sunday. According to the police, Amritpal Singh, a resident of Bhagwanpur village, allegedly had illicit relations with Rani, a married woman of Bholath. It is also alleged that the deceased was last seen with Rani at Bholath on Saturday. A case has been registered against Rani who was untraceable.

Visit
: A group of 40 farmers from Australia visited Nahar group’s unit in Jodhan village here on Sunday. The company said the farmers, headed by mr Brian O’ Connel, were acquainted with the spinning process. They were also told about various aspects of cotton spinning and raw material purchases. The Nahar group has been using Australian cotton in the past, the company said.

Rally held
: Activists of the district units of the All-India Confederation of SC/BC/ST organisations, the Bahujan Samaj Morcha, the Dr Ambedkar Club and the Managing Committee of Bhagwan Balmiki Dharamshala, held a protest rally at Dr Ambedkar Chowk and marched up to the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday in protest against the torching of houses of Dalits at Gohana in Haryana.

Awareness rally: An awareness rally for eye-donation was held by the District Eye Donation Society here on Sunday. School students holding banners and placards participated in the rally. Mr Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, flagged off the rally.

Revolver recovered
: Mr Karam Singh resident of Nikki Makhi village and Kulwant Singh of Bhail have been booked under 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act by the Sarhali police . One .315 bore country made pistol with five live cartridges have been recovered from Karam Singh Kulwant Singh succeeded to ran away from the spot.

Office-bearers: The following have been elected-office bearers of the All-India Panjab and Sind Bank Organization Calcutta. President — Mr Parveen Goel, general secretary, Mr Gautam Sen Gupta, vice-president Mr Y.P. CHANDIGARH

MEDICAL CAMP: A free medical camp for senior citizens was organised in Sri Sathya Sai Old Age Home, Sector 30-B, Chandigarh on Monday by the Sri Sathya Sai Trust and the Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association. More than 110 patients were examined and were given medicine free of cost. The camp was inaugurated by Dr B.N.S Walia, former Director, the PGI.

MEDICAL CHECK-UP: A free medical check-up camp was organised by Desh Bhagat Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, at Shamaspur village with the cooperation of the Sarpanch S. Dharam Singh over 200 patients were examined and given medicines, free of cost.

REGISTRAR: Prof S.S. Bari from the Department of Chemistry on Monday joined the office of the Registrar in Panjab University. Meanwhile, Prof V.K. Bansal from the Department of Laws also joined the office of the Dean, University Instructions.

LECTURE: A special lecture on “Rethinking the Gupta art” was organised by the ICSSR, North-Western Regional Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Ancient Indian History and Archaeology at Panjab University Campus here on Monday. Prof R.N. Misra, Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, and former professor and head ,school of Art and Archeology, Jiwaji University, Gwalior, gave a lucid talk. 

VANAMAHOTSAV: The NSS wing of GCG-11 in the college campus celebrated Vanamahotsav. Principal Majit Kalra inaugurated the function by planting the first sapling in the area. Programme officers and other staff members also planted saplings.

Eight hurt in mishap
: Eight persons were injured when a maxi-cab overturned near Dulhera village on the Jhajjar-Bahadurgarh road here on Sunday. 

2 injured in group clash: Ravinder and Manjeet were injured in a group clash over playing cricket at a ground at Luksar village of Bahadurgarh subdivision here on Sunday. The clash began when took place youths of Mandola village insisted on playing on the same ground where the youths of Luksar village were already playing. A complaint has been lodged against Mandara and Luci of Mandola village. 

KAITHAL
331 cases settled at Lok Adalat
: As many as 331 cases were settled at a Lok Adalat held at the district courts here on Saturday. Mr H.S. Bhangoo, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, presided over. As many as 1017 cases were put up at the Lok Adalat out of which 331 were settled with mutual consent of the parties. Mr Subhash Goel, Ms Raj Rahul Garg and Dr Neelima Shangla, all ADJs, and other judicial officers were also present.

SONEPAT
Singing competition
: A one-day ‘ragini’ competition in the memory of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal will be organised on September 24 at Rohana village. According to a report, Mr Ajay Singh Chautala, MP and the secretary-general of the INLD will be the chief guest. Former Tripura Governor and president of the Chaudhary Devilal Memorial Trust Sultan Singh will preside over the function.

Seva Samiti office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Samaj Sewa Samiti: president — Dr Kailash Tayal; senior vice-president — Mr Chander Bose Khanan; vice-presidents — Mr M.L. Arora, Mr Satyapal Kamra, Mr Lajpat Madan, Mr O.P. Allawadi, Mr Tilak Raj and Mr Rakesh Sharma; secretary-general — Mr Dayanand Ahuja; general secretary — Mr R.K. Setia; secretary — Mr Mohinder Paroothi; assistant secretary — Mr Satpal Nagpal and treasurer — Mr Dinesh Taneja. Besides, Mr Shashi Karan Nasa and Mr Sanjay Makkar have been nominated as the convener and the assistant convener, respectively.

DC takes charge: Ms Neerja has taken over as Deputy Commissioner, Sonepat, succeeding Mr S.K. Goel, According to official sources, Mr Rajinder Singh has assumed charge a Superintendent Police, Sonepat, replacing Mr Anil Kumar Rao. 

House burgled: Thieves allegedly decamped with Rs 50,000 in cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth thousands of rupees after broke opening the locks of a house in Ferozepur Bangar village, 25 km from here, on Sunday.
