PUSU to honour Jaskaran Brar
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 4
A day after students of Panjab University (PU) again reposed complete faith in the Punjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) candidates for the student council poll, founder-members of PUSU met today under chairmanship of Mr Jatinder Singh Virk, founder-president.

The members thanked the university students for voting for PUSU nominees. They also hailed the efforts made by Malwinder Singh Kang and Rajwinder Singh Lucky, both former PUSC presidents, for working for the victory of PUSU candidates.

In an important decision, the members also decided to honour Mr Jaskaran Singh Brar, former president, for his initiatives.

It was under Mr Brar’s leadership that PUSU scored the biggest-ever victory in the university poll, when, in 1982 and 1983 poll, the party made a clean sweep of all seats by huge margins.

The members recalled that during the dark days of terrorism in Punjab and Chandigarh, when all other students’ organisations went into oblivion, Mr Brar kept the PUSU flag fluttering.

The members also urged the Punjab Government to accept all genuine demands of teachers so that they were not forced to agitate.
