The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today honoured some senior scientists for their outstanding contribution to agricultural development. They included Dr G.S. Nanda, Dr Piara Singh Gill, Dr Gurdip Singh and H.S.Gulati. Presiding over the function to honour these scientists, organised by the Directorate of Extension Education, Dr S.S.Gill, Director, said these scientists had made a significant contribution in the field of research, teaching and extension.

PAU announces Thapar gold medals

Under the chairmanship of Dr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, a meeting of the academic council was held in which it was decided that the university would honour three students with the Dr P.N. Thapar Memorial gold medal. They include Gungeet Mahindra, best graduate of 2002 from the College of Home Science, Sunaina Singh and Ms Taniya Dhillon, both best graduates of 2003 and 2004, respectively, from the College of Agriculture.

Bhungar Khan, a young man from Maganiar, tribe from Jaisalmer mesmerises audiences by playing ‘khadtal’. ‘Khadtal’ has just four wooden blocks and the skill lies in holding two pieces in each hand and clicking them to create music. Since the boys of this tribe start learning at a very young age, by the time they grow up, they attain a high degree of proficiency.
