Students honoured at college function

Khanna, August 27
A function was organised to honour students who had excelled in the academic session 2004-05. Mr Yoginder Sharma, president of the college management, was the chief guest.

Dr R.S. Jhanji, principal of the college, welcomed the guests and said the future of any nation depended upon the capability of the youth.

In all, 31 students were honoured. A stipend of Rs 150 and Rs 100 was announced for the students who stood first and second, respectively. The principal said these students would be enlisted as members of Brilliant Students Club and Students Welfare Council.

Mr Sanjiv Dhamija, secretary of the college, said in view of the demand of residents of the area, the college management was starting B.Ed classes in the next session. There would be 100 seats in all.

A book by Prof Gagan Deep Sethi, “Bhartiya Rajniti and Samaj”, was released on the occasion.

Management member Som Nath Latawa also attended the function. Prof Jassa Singh thanked the guests at the end of the function.

Game show in city

Ludhiana, August 27
‘Husain School Show’ to be conducted by popular anchor Hussain of “Khulja Sim Sim” on the Star Plus will be staged at KVM School tomorrow. A Circular states that the money collected will go to Literacy India, an NGO based in Delhi, that takes care of education of the underprivileged.

A circular from the school reads that the gameshow is ‘Khulja Sim Sim’. The sets will be huge and so will be the prizes. Davinder Sharma of Mileage Events that is handling the show, says the prizes have been sponsored by corporate houses.

Some parents are sore that all facts have not been told to the students of KVM. They were under the impression that the show would be televised.

Parents are skeptical about the money being used for the right purpose. But Principal SC Saxena says the gameshow is for entertainment. OC

Founder’s Day celebrations

Doraha, August 27
The Founder’s Day celebrations and inauguration of Dr Ishwar Singh Memorial Hall will take place at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, on August 31.

Prof Jagdev Singh Grewal, officiating principal of the college, said the unveiling of the statue of the founder president, Dr Ishwar Singh, will take place the same day.

Prof Balwant Singh Pangali, general secretary, College Management Committee, said the inauguration of the hall and the unveiling of the stature will be done by Mr Parkash Singh Badal, president, Shiromani Akali Dal and former Chief Minister.

Bibi Jagir Kaur, president, SGPC will over the function.

Ms Bhagwant Kaur, president, Managing Committee, along with executive committee members and other prominent personalities of the area will grace the occasion.
