The Mufti held that his efforts of building a consensus for dialogue yielded results, which led to a changed scenario in the state. He said walls of hatred were being dismantled and an era of friendship dawning on the horizon of the sub-continent. Mufti Sayeed said the path of dialogue and reconciliation adopted by the leadership of India and Pakistan was the way forward for the people of the state, which already had started benefiting Jammu and Kashmir. Hold talks with Hurriyat: Omar to Centre
Srinagar, August 22 “The Centre should immediately hold talks with the Hurriyat leaders without any pre-conditions,” Mr Abdullah said here. The former Union minister said the resumption of the stalled talks between the Centre and the Hurriyat Conference would pave the way for restoration of permanent peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Abdullah’s statement is seen as a major shift in the NC’s stand as the party had earlier strongly opposed any talks between the Centre and the separatists, including the Hurriyat Conference. Both Mr Abdullah and his father and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah had openly expressed displeasure and opposed any such dialogue process at various forums when the NC was in power in the state.
