SC issues notice on fatwas
PIL on parallel Islamic courts
New Delhi, August 16
The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre, Islamic Seminary, Darul-ul-Uloom of Deoband, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), and several states on a petition accusing the two most important Muslim bodies of trying to interfere with the country’s legal system and introduce parallel Islamic laws in violation of the Constitution.

160 killed in Venezuela air crash

All 152 passengers and eight crew members on board the West Caribbean McDonnell Douglas MD-82 airliner died when it crashed in Venezuela today, the Colombian airline said in a news release.
Another inquiry into Bombay High fire announced

Rejecting the demand for a judicial inquiry into the July 27 ONGC fire at Bombay High, Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar today announced in the Lok Sabha the setting up of an independent high-level inquiry committee to look into the circumstances leading to the accident.
