Sikhs demand action against tainted leaders
Chandigarh/Mohali August 9
Various organisations in Chandigarh and Mohali today condemned the Nanavati Commission’s action taken report on 1984 anti-Sikh riots. While members of the Sikh community burnt a dummy of the Justice G.T. Nanavati Commission’s report at Sector 17 plaza this afternoon, a protest rally was also organised in Mohali.

The All-India Youth Akali Dal said today that if Dr Manmohan Singh considered himself a true Sikh he should quit the office of Prime Minister in support of those affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.

The Chandigarh Administration today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dell India for further upgrading human resources and implementing the Chandigarh Training on Soft Skills

A harrowing love tale comes to happy end
Raman and Snehlata Khanna finally get to share happy moments. Chandigarh, August 9
For Raman and Snehlata Khanna of Yamunanagar, love has been a bitter pill. And had it not been for the intervention of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today, it would have continued to be so. After a year of separation and harassment at the hands of Snehlata’s father, the couple finally reunited for good today. They were not so happy to get back together again as they were over the absolution from grave charges of kidnapping and forgery which the girl’s father had levelled against the love-struck boy and his family.

Workshop on cyber laws

The Government Examiner of Questioned Documents (GEQD), Chandigarh, under the aegis of the Directorate of Forensic Science, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, organised a one-day course on emerging trends in white collar crime and their detection here today. The course was inaugurated by Mr Satish Chandra, Inspector General of Police.

Admin urged to regulate changes in houses

Coming down heavily on the alleged pick-and-choose policy of the Chandigarh Administration, house owners today demanded the implementation of the recommendations of the sub-committee on by laws. Addressing a press conference here, house owners alleged that though the committee submitted its report on June 7, yet the administration was dragging its feet on its implementation.

In an interesting development, the Chandigarh Housing Board has received more than 30 cases during the past fortnight where owners of residential units have voluntarily demolished the illegal structures like new rooms, additional storeys and rooms in the backyards of their houses.

Singh had impressed everyone with his speed and accuracy in the last Ranji Trophy season.
