Ramgarhia college celebrates Teej

Ludhiana, August 3
Teej was celebrated at Ramgarhia Girls College, Miller Ganj, here today. To celebrate the occasion, competitions of music, mehndi, hair styling and modelling were organised. The main aim of this function was to recognise the hidden talent of the budding artistes. The function was presided over by Mr Charanjit Singh Dhanjal.

The function started with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the guest of honour along with Principal Harmit Kaur and members of the managing committee. Principal said she felt happy to see people like Mr Dhanjal, who being an NRI, was deeply attached to his roots and culture.

Mr Dhanjal expressed satisfaction at the young generations’ interests in art and music and said the memories of this day would last for a long time to come. The installation ceremony of the Central Students Association was also performed.

Excellent results

With the declaration of results of MAI (Punjabi) of Panjab University, Chandigarh, Guru Nanak Girls College has once again established its premier position as one of the leading colleges in the city. The college boasts of 100 per cent results. Ms Hardeep Kaur secured the seventh position in the university by securing 279/400 marks. As many as 27 students of the college secured first division.

Doraha college toppers honoured

Doraha, August 3
Meritorious students of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha were honoured by Mr Vinod Kumar Sharma, Excise and Taxation Minister, Haryana yesterday. The function was held at Dr Ishwar Singh Memorial Hall.

Apart from congratulating the toppers, Mr Venod Sharma exhorted the students to work with devotion and dedication.

He remembered his childhood spent in his native town Doraha and the attachment he had with the college and its dignitaries. He especially recalled the dedicated services of the late founder president of the college, Dr Ishwar Singh, and offered tributes.

Earlier, Prof B.S. Pangli, general secretary, College Management Committee, and Mr Jaswant Singh Gill, Director, accorded a warm welcome to the chief guest. Mr Jagdev Singh Grewal, officiating Principal, highlighted the achievement of the college in the field of academics, sports and cultural activities. Prof M.S. Bhandari, head of the Department of Hindi, conducted the stage.

The students who were especially honoured on the occasion were Upasna Kaushal, university topper in MA II (Pol Sci), Dapinderjit Kaur, MA I (Pol Sci), Neena Rani, M Com (IV semester), Sehnaz Behgum, MA I (Pbi), Paramjit Kaur, MA II (Pbi), Hitesh Baluja (BCAJ), Suneet Kaur, BCA II, Harbant Kaur, BCA III, Gagandeep Kaur, (B Com I), Kamaljit Kaur, (B Com II), Aaina Sood, (B Com III), Amritpal Kaur, (BA I), Davinder Kaur, (BA II), Lovely Sharma, BA III (Hons), Inderjit Singh, (BA I), Raj Kumar, (BA II), Vikramjit Mehta, (BA III), Ridhima Sood/Narinder Kaur, (10+2 commerce) and Jatinder Kaur, (10+2 arts).

A sapling was planted by Mr Venod Sharma on the occasion. A grant of Rs 1 lakh was announced by the chief guest for the promotion of computer education in the college.

Among those who were present on the occasion included Bibi Bhagwant Kaur, chief, management committee, Mr Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, senior vice-president and Mr Adarsh Pal Bector, Mr Tarlok Singh Jaggi, Mr Rajinder Singh Khalsa and Mr Bhupinder Singh Oberoi, executive committee.

Poem recitation contest at KVM

A poem recitation competition was held at Kundan Visya Mandir School here today. Students of LKG and UKG classes participated in the competition. The Principal Mr S.C. Saxena, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes to the winners of the competition.

Winners: LKG: Bhaya Jindal I, Sanya Gupta II, Sanya Verma & Samnyu Khosla III and Ishita Gupta consolation.

UKG: Vidushi Jindal I, Vaibhav Periwal II, Nisha Saggar and Praney Nagpal III and Parul Pathak consolation.

Teenage Day celebrated: Teenage Day was celebrated here on Tuesday. Special functions were held at RS Model School, Shastri Nagar, DAV Public School, BRS Nagar and Nauhria Mal Jain School. A team of doctors from the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Ludhiana and the Adolescent Chapter of IAP, Punjab addressed the students.

This year’s theme was ‘Adolescent against drug abuse’. The speakers told the students about the effects of drugs, alcohol, and smoking with help of slides. It was emphasised that tobacco chewing and smoking was number 1 cause of cancer and heart diseases. They were also told about the ill effects of drug addiction and alcoholism. Students attending these programme, took an oath not to take drugs and educate others too.

A poster competition was held on the occasion. Most of the posters depicted the harmful effects of drug abuse. The winners were given prizes by IAP, Ludhiana, in their respective schools. The general problems of among teenagers like nutrition, obesity stress were also discussed . Dr S.S. Luthra, Dr A.S. Chawla, Dr Harinder Singh , Dr Sukhmeet Singh, Dr R.S. Sibal, Dr Pushpinder Singh and Dr A.K. Handa were among those who attended the functions.

Scouts and Guides camp concludes

Under the agis of the Bharat Scouts & Guides, Punjab, a seven-day camp has concluded at Government High School, Suhagheri, 10 kilometres from here.

The concluding function was presided over by Mr Gurmail Singh, District Education Officer-cum-District Chief Commissioner (Scouts).

He stressed the need to organise more scout camps to inculcate the spirit of social service among students. Mr Bella Singh was the chief guest.
