Scientists caution farmers
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, July 22
PAU experts have advised farmers to check the level of carbon dioxide in the tube wells while repairing the pumps. According to scientists from the Department of Soil and Water Engineering carbon dioxide gas is produced in the tube well pits during the rainy season. It can cause suffocation and people can become unconscious after a few minutes of entering the pits.

Carbon dioxide gas can be checked by lowering a burning kerosene lamp in the tube well pit. If the lamp gets extinguished, it shows the presence of carbon dioxide. At least two persons should be present on the site to handle the situation. The gas can be dissolved in lime water by pouring it from the top of well. For an average pit of 1.75 m, 1 kg of lime can be used for every meter depth of gas column in the pit.

Aroona churns out love story
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, July 22
Actor-director Aroona Irani along with Sangeeta Ghosh of “Jis Des mein Nikla Hoga Chand” was in the city here last evening. They had come to promote the new serial, “Rabba Ishq Na Hove”, which goes on Zee TV from July 26.

Aroona said: “I am very happy to make this serial with a different name. The intense story of “Rabba Ishq Na Hove” depicts the love turmoil in the lives of protagonists. Beginning July 26, it would air every Tuesday at 10 pm on Zee channel. I have repeated my star cast . Sangeeta Ghosh is paired against Varun Bhadola as I feel they have a certain chemistry which is appealing. We have shot lavishly in the breath-taking locales of Singapore, Dubai and India.”

The story revolves round Veera Malhotra (Sangeeta Ghosh) an air-hostess who falls in love with Vivaan (Nikhil Arya) who does not love her and plays pranks on her. Finally, she meets Aman (Varun Badola) and finds true love.

Aruna said she had completed 50 years in films and television and had acted in over 600 movies. She loved comedy and her favourite co-stars were Mehmood and Kadar Khan. “I wanted to make a comedy movie but unfortunately there are no writers. It was a conscious decision to shift to television. I am very happy as my previous serials, “Tum Bin Jaoon Kahan”, “Mehandi Tere Naam Ki” and “Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand” were run-away hits,” she said.

Sukhwinder has written and given music for the title song. The serial is on a smaller scale but have a feel of Yash Chopra movies.

Sangeeta Ghosh said: “I sleep live and think of this serial for it is so beautifully shot .I feel love is such a beautiful emotion. When we fall in love with a wrong person we say “rabba ishq na hove” and when we are in love with the right person, we too, are so besotted that even then we say rabbaa ishq na hove’. I was reminded of Yash Chopra’s movies while we were shooting. Aroona Irani is a bundle of energy who transmits her energetic vibes to her co-stars. She also sees that in serials there is no vulgarity as we know that in many homes there is only one television set and the whole family sits together to watch it. Aroona plays the role of my mother.”
