Late result blocks student's career
Ludhiana, July 19 Her father visited the university twice to know the reason of the late result, but the official concerned said they
were still awaiting the awards and expressed inability to do anything in the in the absence of the
assessment. Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Supriya alleged that callous attitude of the university had ruined her career. "All my aspirations towards further studies have been shattered and I have left with no alternative left but to sit idle at home and wait till the next session", she said. She complained that her father also desired to know the name and address of the awardee with an intention to follow up the matter but he was denied on the plea that the information related to secret branch of the university. "I alongwith my father visited the college to know the reason of late result and requested the Superintendent to follow up with the university. The Superintendent apprised that he had already deputed an official to know the reason, but no satisfactory reply was received. So he was helpless", said
Supriya. She said such awardees or defaulters should be punished and held responsible for ruining her career. |

Life term for 3 in murder case
Ludhiana, July 19 The convicts are: Ajay Kumar (20) of Ajit Nagar, Raikot Road, Gursewak Singh (21) of New Sabzi Mandi and Pawan Kumar (21) of Mahavir Colony. They had been Jagroan and have also been fined Rs 5000 each. Delivering the verdict, Mr Bangarh held, ‘’ the accused are no doubt, guilty of henious offence. The imposition of life imprisonment upon them would meet ends of justice’’. The accused were booked under sections 302, 201, 364 and 34 of the IPC at Jagroan police station on October 1, 2002 following the complaint of Jai Pal, elder brother of the deceased. The complainant had stated to the police that Ajay Kumar was a relative and he used to come to the shop of his brother to learn work. On September 29, 2002 he did not come to the shop without any intimation. When the accused (Ajay Kumar) was questioned as to why he had not come without informing them, the accused replied that he had gone to see a match, which annoyed Sunder Pal. He asked the accused that he would be removed from service, if such incident happened again. Following this, Ajay Kumar left the shop giving threats to his brother, added the complainant. Jai Pal further narrated that on the very next day when his brother did not reach at home till 10.30 pm, he went to his shop. When he reached there, he learnt that the accused had forcibly taken his brother in a car and fled away. He also noticed that the main shutter of the shop was locked, whereas the shutter in the street side was not locked. When he entered the shop, he saw some broken bottles. There were stains of blood on the floor. The slippers of Sunder Lal were also lying there. After registration of the case, the police swung into action and recovered the car used at the time of commission of offence. According to prosecution, the police found blood stains on the back seat covers of the car. Two days after the murder, the two accused were apprehended by the police. During custody, the accused admitted that they had concealed the dead body in a gunny bag and threw it in the water of Akhara canal near narrow bridge. On October 5, the police arrested the third accused Pawan and solved the murder case. |
Advocates go on strike in Samrala
Samrala, July 19 Mr Sharma said meeting was called here under the chairmanship of Mr Uttam Kumar Chand, president of the bar, and it was decided to meet the SSP, Khanna, Mr Naunihal Singh, tomorrow as the case had been registered without going into the facts of the application and without conducting preliminary investigations. Mr Chand said the deputation of the bar would bring the real facts in the notice of the SSP and would urge him to enquire the matter. Meanwhile, the bar has requested the bar association of Khanna to go on strike. |
Religious filmmaker honoured
Ludhiana, July 19 At an elaborate function, held at Grewal Market on Barewal Road here, Ms Sidhu was presented a gold medal, a sword and siropa (robe of honour) by Mr Gurdeep Singh Leel, president of the manch. Speaking at the occasion, Mr Leel said in making the religious documentary, the film maker had made a bid to remind the Sikh youth about the glorious past and rich heritage of the community. He said the film would serve as a bridge between the members of Sikh community and message of the tenth guru as enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Mr Awtar Singh Makkar, Mr Kanwalinder Singh, Mr Gurmel Singh Sanghowal, Mr Balwinder Singh Bains, all members of SGPC; Mr Amarjit Singh Bhatia, vice president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal); Mr Mann Singh Garcha, Mr Baljit Singh Bharowal, Mr Bikramjit Singh Khalsa, former MLA, Mr Hira Singh Gabria, president, District Akali Jatha and Mr Pritam Singh Bharowal lauded the efforts put in by Ms Sidhu in making the documentary film. Functionaries of All India Sikh Students Federation, Bahujan Samaj Party, Istri Akali Dal, Lok Janshakti Party, Teachers Union, Punjabi International Cultural Society and other prominent persons from all walks of life, attended the function.

Haibowal school score 6-wkt win
Ludhiana, July 19 Batting first, Nav Bharti school were all out for 89 in 20 overs. Only two batsmen, Ashish Kumar and Saurabh, could reach double figures, making 33 and 10 runs, respectively. For government school, Nirmal Sharma was the most successful bowler, claiming three for nine while Satinder Singh took 2 for 24 and Prince captured one for 20. Government Senior Secondary School surpassed the total in the sixteenth over after losing four wickets. Navdeep and Rishi remained unbeaten on 28 and 26 runs, respectively. Ashish and Sidharth of Nav Baharti school took two wickets each, conceding 7 and 19 runs, respectively. Mr Charanjit Singh, District Sports Officer, Moga, inaugurated the tournament. Tomorrow, the second match will be played between Saraswati Model School and Nav Bharti Public School. TT tourney: According to Ms Baldeep Pandher, Director, Ludhiana Sahodya School Complex and Principal of Green Land School, boys as well as girls teams will battle it out in this three-day tournament.
