The new Cricket Coaching Centre being run in the premises of DAV College, Sector 10, will work under the aegis of Chandigarh Cricket Association affiliated to the Haryana Cricket Association.

Mr Surinder Singh Baijee, hony secretary of the association, said that the budding cricketers will be trained at the centre under the supervision of former cricketer Yog Raj Singh.

“It is just like home-coming for me as I can revive my old days when I started my cricket career from here and represented Haryana in my earlier days,” said Yog Raj.

Replying a question, Mr Baijee revealed that the CCA (Haryana) would provide all the infrastructure like bats, balls, nets etc to the centre, but the ground maintenance would be looked after by the DAV authorities. Inter-district cricket meet tournament could be held on this ground.

No fee will be charged from the up-and-coming players who come for coaching at the centre. But the academy will settle the fee structure later on.

“Our motive behind giving affiliation to this ground is to produce and hone the skill of local talent in cricket so that our talent should not think of moving outside the state because of lack of chance and facilities,” he further told.

Regarding the funds, Yog Raj stated that a couple of sponsors had come forward and were willing to meet the expenses.

A fifteen-day camp of under-15 is under way in which about 40 probables are taking part.
